Berta alza su mirada el cielo para ver el avión que lo está surcando, le dice a su hermano, — cuando sea grande pilotearé un avión y transportaré ciento de personas a diferentes partes del mundo. — Oh, cuanta fantasía hay en tu cabeza hermana, es un sueño difícil de realizar, pues eres una niña. — Mira Berta, las niñas no están hechas para volar, aunque si pueden trabajar en el avión, pero como azafatas, esas que sirven la comida solamente como eso. Lo menciono sarcásticamente. — Eso no es del todo verdad, Sebastián, existió una mujer llamada Amelia Earhart que piloteó su avión ella sola. — Ah, claro que si lo hizo, pero ella no piloteaba aviones comerciales como lo quieres hacer tú, además en ninguna escuela de aviación admiten mujeres. — Puede que sea verdad en estos momentos, pero sé que lo lograré, ya lo verás. Berta dio media vuelta y se dirigió a casa muy enojada, su hermano corrió detrás de ella pidiéndole a gritos que lo esperará, no quería atravesar el campo solo. La niña entró a la casa sin mediar palabra con nadie, se fue directo a su cuarto, segundos después llegaría jadeando su hermano, la madre se le acercó y pregunto. — ¿Por qué Berta está brava?, ¿por qué tú llegas corriendo?, ¿qué les paso? — No le hice nada, solo le dije que no podía pilotear un avión comercial porque ella es una chica y eso la enojo. — Ignoraba que Berta quisiera volar un avión de ese tipo, pero es verdad las mujeres no servíamos para hacer ese trabajo, es solo para hombres. — Ya se lo dije mamá, pero ella no me cree. — Manifestó con tristeza Sebastián Al día siguiente la niña le cuenta a su amiga Susana lo disgustada que estaba con su hermano, él no la creía capaz de realizar su sueño, más su amiga también la decepciono porque compartía la misma idea que su familia. Cada vez que Berta le contaba su sueño a alguien de inmediato lo desestimaba, fueron tantos los nunca que oyó que perdió la cuenta, pero nada de lo que le decían hacían que desistiera de su anhelo de pilotear un avión comercial. Sus padres le hablaron de las diferentes profesiones que existían y se quería trabajar en alguna línea área, pues debía realizar un curso como asistente de vuelo, allí sí que encajaría, esa si era una ocupación para chicas. En el camino tuvo que pasar por diversas barreras que parecían confirmar lo que sus familiares y amigos le decían, reiteradamente, que la aviación no es para las mujeres, incluso hubo momentos en que pensó seguir sus consejos, en desistir e iniciar una carrera universitaria, sin embargo, ella continuó insistiendo. Varios soles con sus lunas tuvieron que pasar, antes de que Berta pudiera verse caminando hacia al aeropuerto con su uniforme de capitana, al verla sus padres no lo creían, pues siempre pensaron que solo se trataba de una ilusión pasajera que su hija tenía de volar por las alturas.

Berta looks up to the sky to see the plane flying overhead, she tells her brother, "when I grow up, I will fly a plane and transport hundreds of people to different parts of the world." "Oh, how much fantasy is in your head sister, it is a difficult dream to realize, for you are a child." "Look, Berta, girls are not made to fly, although they can work on the plane, but as stewardesses, those who serve the food just like that. I mention it sarcastically." "That's not entirely true, Sebastian, there was a woman named Amelia Earhart who flew her plane by herself." "Ah, of course, she did, but she didn't fly commercial airplanes like you want to do, besides, no aviation school admits women." "It may be true right now, but I know I'll make it, you'll see." Berta turned around and headed home angry, her brother ran after her screaming for her to wait for him, he didn't want to cross the field alone. The girl entered the house without saying a word to anyone, and she went straight to her room, seconds later, her brother arrived panting, and her mother approached her and asked. "Why is Berta so angry, why do you come running, what happened to them?" "I didn't do anything to her, I just told her I couldn't fly a commercial airplane because she's a girl, and that made her mad." "I didn't know that Berta wanted to fly a plane like that, but, indeed, women are not good for that job, it's only for men." "I already told her mom, but she didn't believe me. Sebastian said sadly." The girl, in search of comfort and approval, tells her friend Susana how upset she is with her brother, he does not believe her capable of making her dream come true, but her friend also disappoints her because she shares the same idea as her family. Every time Berta told her dream to someone she immediately dismissed it, she never heard so many that she lost count, but nothing anyone told her made her give up her dream of flying a commercial airplane. Her parents told her about the different professions that existed and that if she wanted to work in an airline, she should take a course as a flight attendant, she would fit in there, because that was an occupation for girls. Along the way she had to go through several barriers that seemed to confirm what her family and friends repeatedly told her, that aviation is not for women, there were even times when she thought about following their advice, to give up and start a university career, however, she continued to insist. Several suns with their moons had to pass before Berta could see herself walking to the airport in her captain's uniform. When her parents saw her, they did not believe it, because they always thought it was just a passing illusion that their daughter had of flying by the heights.
