On this trip I stayed in Jaco Tranquillo, a 2 bedroom beachfront condo in Jaco Beach. This condo was only $1200/month with a $1200 deposit. That works out to about $40/night for a 5 star apartment. I have both backpacked the country staying in hostels ($15/night) and rented luxury units ($400/night). If you talk to real estate agents in whatever town you decide to go, they will help you find the perfect condo. The trick is to not reserve anything prior to your trip and tell the agent you plan on staying long term. You have to be firm that you do not want to sign a 6 month lease. I could walk to downtown within a couple blocks for the wild party's and casinos. Jaco Beach is a party town with a bad reputation. I have been there a few other times and would agree that it is not Costa Ricas most beautiful town.
