Disasters are caused by human activities, floods may be mentioned in them. Unfortunately, there is no technology that can predict when an earthquake will occur. The current technology can only map earthquake potential based on several conditions such as earth faults and fire rings.

Akhir Tahun Rentan Bencana

Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, bencana sering terjadi di akhir tahun. Bukan saja bencana yang disebabkan oleh perubahan cuaca seperti curah hujan tinggi yang menyebabkan banjir atau longsor, tetapi bencana yang tidak dapat diprediksi seperti gempa dan tsunami yang baru-baru saja melanda Selat Sunda.

Bencana ada yang disebabkan ulah manusia, banjir boleh disebut di dalamnya. Pembalakan liar dan kerusakan hutan menjadi salah satu penyebab banjir, selain perilaku buruk manusia dalam menjaga lingkungan seperti membuang sampah sembarangan atau sistem drainase yang buruk. Ada juga bencana yang diluar kesalahan manusia seperti gempa dan tsunami.

Celakanya, belum ada teknologi yang bisa memperkirakan kapan gempa akan terjadi. Teknologi yang ada saat ini hanya bisa memetakan potensi gempa saja berdasarkan beberapa kondisi seperti patahan bumi dan cincin api.

Di tengah kondisi yang sulit diprediksi, akhir tahun merupakan jadwal yang padat. Anak-anak sudah memasuki libur sekolah. Beberapa lembaga memiliki acara yang padat, ada yang menyebutkan agenda menghabiskan anggaran akhir tahun. Dan banyak agenda liburan lainnya yang membuat akhir tahun penuh gegap gembira, terutama dengan datangnya tahun baru. Seolah akhir tahun harus selalu dirayakan dengan pesta.

Padahal, tidak selamanya harus demikian. Apalagi di tengah bencana gempa dan tsunami, banjir, tanah longsor, serta kecelakaan lalu lintas yang terjadi di berbagai wilayah di Indonesia bahkan di beberapa negara, akhir-akhir ini. Sudah seharusnya tidak berlebihan dalam merayakan akhir tahun sebagai bentuk keprihatinan terhadap para korban.

Akhir tahun selalu ramai dengan perpindahan manusia dari satu tempat ke tempat lain sangat tinggi dan itu berarti sistem transportasi yang ada harus bekerja dengan baik. Di Indonesia, sistem transportasi belum aman, nyaman, dan tepat waktu sehingga harus diwaspadai setiap orang yang bepergian, baik untuk kebutuhan pekerjaan maupun liburan. Berbagai perubahan yang terjadi, harus diantisipasi agar tidak menjadi masalah di kemudian hari.
