Cuando somos niños hacemos muchas travesuras y siempre dicen que los abuelos son esos amigos, que te cuidan, corrigen, complacen y a su vez te aman como si fueran papá y mamá.

En mi caso no conocí a mis abuelos, uno había fallecido cuando papá tenía unos trece años, y cuando mi mamá estaba embarazada de mi, murió su papá, así que siempre en la escuela y en el liceo me pregunté que sería tener un abuelo, veía a mis compañeros compartir con los suyos y saben algo, más que tenerles envidia, sentía nostalgia. Pero a mis abuelitas si las conocí, una esta en Colombia, y esta en compañía de algunos de mis tíos y tías, y hasta ahora se encuentra con buena salud; pero si hablo en pasado es porque lamentablemente en diciembre de 2021, a sus 96 años, la mamá de mi madre falleció, como siempre le dijimos sus hijos y nietos, MAMÁ NIEVES. Fue un golpe duro para todos, aunque desde 2016 los doctores habían pronosticado que fallecería debido a su estado de salud, luego de ese diagnóstico pasaron 5 años y 3 meses, para que fuese una realidad. Saben que me sorprende de todo esto que les he comentado hasta ahora, no fue el tiempo que sobrevivió luego del diagnostico adverso, porque ella logro superar esa situación y salió del hospital, algunos dicen que aguantó bastante, lo que sorprende es lo que se hizo en la familia, en especial sus hijos para que ella llegara hasta ese día. Su cuidado fue tal, que era tratada como si fuera una bebé, le hacían su comida, la bañaban, la cambiaban, le llevaban control de sus medicinas, de día y de noche estaban pendiente de voltearla para evitar que se le formaran escaras en la parte trasera de su cuerpo, ya que su estadía eran las 24 horas en cama, así como otros cuidados. El día jueves empezó a decaer bastante, su tensión era muy baja y se estaba descompensando, el viernes en la tarde se llamó al medico y este atendió el llamado, cuando la revisa, le indica a la familia que lamentablemente entro en coma; los presentes preguntan porque no hacer arreglos para ponerle oxigeno y ayudarla, y aunque lo que el doctor paso a decir fue duro, tenía razón, él les explico que ese dinero que iban a usar en bombona y equipos de oxigeno, era preferible que lo usaran en los próximos días para los gastos funerarios, ya que estaba muy débil y le quedaban pocas horas de vida, aun así le coloco una vía para administrarle un suero e hidratarla; fue hasta el lunes a las 5y30 de la mañana, que dejó de respirar y se durmió en la muerte; cuando regresa al doctor para realizar el informe médico y tramitar el acta de defunción, les dijo: "la señora duro bastante", y es que sus hijos ese mismo viernes observaron como se le colocó un suero, y ellos mismos hicieron arreglos para seguir colocando hasta esa madrugada del lunes, ninguno de ellos tenía conocimiento médico o al menos había hecho un curso de primeros auxilios, solo con observar, supieron que hacer para ayudar a Doña Nieves hasta lo ultimo. A los días, le pregunte a mi mamá como se sentía y me comento que ella y mis tíos se sentían extraños, con un fuerte vacío, incluso no sabía que hacer, me dijo: "ya no debo hacer sus cremitas y juguitos", ya no había que cambiarla, y a veces se despertaban de madrugada pendientes de voltearla, para que no se le formaran las escaras, eso demuestra que ya era una rutina todo lo que hacían por ella, no por simple compromiso, sino por puro y verdadero amor, nadie puede reprochar que tuvo hijos negligentes y mucho menos descuidados, para mi, mi hermana y primos, familiares y conocidos de la familia, son un ejemplo de como cuidar a los padres envejecidos y de amor.

Her care was such that she was treated as if she were a baby, they made her food, bathed her, changed her, took control of her medicines, during the day and at night they were watching her to turn her over to prevent bedsores from forming on the back of her body, since her stay was 24 hours in bed, as well as other care. On Thursday she started to decline a lot, her blood pressure was very low and she was decompensating, on Friday afternoon the doctor was called and he answered the call, when he checked her, he told the family that unfortunately she went into a coma; Those present asked why not make arrangements to put oxygen and help her, and although what the doctor said was hard, he was right, he explained that the money they were going to use in oxygen cylinder and oxygen equipment, it was preferable to use it in the coming days for funeral expenses, as she was very weak and had a few hours to live, even so he placed an IV to administer a serum and hydrate her; It was until Monday at 5:30 in the morning, that she stopped breathing and fell asleep in death; when she returned to the doctor to make the medical report and process the death certificate, he said: "the lady lasted long enough", and is that her children that same Friday observed how a serum was placed, and they themselves made arrangements to continue placing until that early Monday morning, none of them had medical knowledge or at least had done a first aid course, just by observing, they knew what to do to help Doña Nieves until the last. A few days later, I asked my mother how she was feeling and she told me that she and my uncles felt strange, with a strong emptiness, she did not even know what to do, she told me: "I must no longer make her cremitas and juices", it was no longer necessary to change her, and sometimes they woke up at dawn pending to turn her over, so that the bedsores would not form, that shows that it was already a routine everything they did for her, not by simple commitment, but by pure and true love, no one can reproach that she had negligent children and much less careless, for me, my sister and cousins, relatives and acquaintances of the family, are an example of how to care for aging parents and love.

Eso nos lleva a considerar que una buena forma de sobrellevar la perdida de un ser querido, es recordando los buenos momentos y los no tan buenos, porque nos permiten recopilar información que nos llena de alegría, nos saca sonrisas, a veces nos cubre de nostalgia, y aunque hay un vacío, la sensación de haber disfrutado, vívido o hasta haber pasado un momento difícil, pero como se supero o sobrellevo te hace suspirar y decir verdad que sí, sino hubiera sido por su actitud emprendedora, no hubiéramos salido adelante, o si ella no hubiera estado allí, no se que habría hecho yo, y así era Mamá Nieves, una mujer calmada, eso si cuando se ponía brava, se ponía de verdad, pero también era alegre, le gustaba caminar bastante, pero con la edad sus problemas de circulación aumentaron, y le toco bajar el paso, siempre que me llevaba al mercado de niño, disfrutaba con ella y de verdad que caminaba buscando ofertas, los que me conocen al leer esto tal vez digan, con razón él camina tanto. Algo que tampoco podré olvidar es como me cuidaba, siempre dándonos la merienda: café con pan, o cuando mi hermana y yo, no hacíamos ruido, ella sabia que algo estábamos inventando y con cuidado nos buscaba para atraparnos y disciplinarnos. Recuerdo cuando mamá nos dejaba con ella, yo dormía con la abuela, y ella me decía por las mañanas, que yo dormía mal porque le caía a patadas, pero a pesar de eso siempre podía volver a dormir con ella, a veces se acordaba y me daba a masticar ajo, para que eso no se repitiera la siguiente noche, mientras escribo esto, los ojos se me llenan de lagrimas, pero feliz de que pude disfrutar todo esos momentos y muchos más... Admiro de mi abuelita, lo trabajadora que fue, cuando murió mi abuelo, como ya dije yo estaba en el vientre de mamá, y ya han pasado 39 años de eso, y ella siempre respeto la memoria de Papá Lino, y saco la casa y a sus hijos adelante, aunque la mayoría tenía su familia, ella igual los apoyo y saco el negocio familiar para el sustento de la casa y los demás, le gustaba cocinar y siempre consentía a cada uno de los que estábamos o visitaban su casa. Una vez fuimos a la playa, y nos toco agarrar una lancha para trasladarnos a una isla, pero se tomo la mala decisión de regresar tarde, y nos encontramos con la marea alta, en una de esas olas gigantes, el bote cayo tan fuerte que ella también se cayo al piso del bote y de ahí no se paro hasta que gracias a Dios, llegamos sanos y salvos, pero fue tan firme en ese momento que nadie la pudo mover hasta que se detuvo la lancha en el puerto.

Something that I will never forget is how she took care of me, always giving us a snack: coffee with bread, or when my sister and I did not make noise, she knew that we were inventing something and carefully looked for us to catch us and discipline us. I remember when mom left us with her, I slept with grandma, and she told me in the mornings, that I slept badly because I was kicking her, but despite that I could always go back to sleep with her, sometimes she remembered and gave me to chew garlic, so that this would not be repeated the next night, as I write this, my eyes are filled with tears, but happy that I could enjoy all those moments and many more... I admire my grandmother, how hardworking she was, when my grandfather died, as I said I was in my mother's womb, and it has been 39 years since then, and she always respected the memory of Papa Lino, and took the house and her children forward, although most had their families, she still supported them and took the family business for the support of the house and others, she liked to cook and always spoiled each one of us who were or visited her house. Once we went to the beach, and we had to take a boat to move to an island, but we made the bad decision to return late, and we found ourselves at high tide, in one of those giant waves, the boat fell so hard that she also fell to the floor of the boat and from there she did not stop until, thank God, we arrived safe and sound, but it was so firm at that moment that no one could move her until the boat stopped at the port.

Nunca olvidare cuando ya estaba mas grande y ya vivíamos aparte, los domingos era el día de visitar la casa de la abuela, y cuando ya nos veníamos ella me llamaba aparte y me daba dinero, no era mucho pero siempre lo hizo con mucho cariño, ella era de las que no creía en los bancos y no sabemos donde guardaba el dinero pero siempre tenia para nosotros, la ultima vez que recibí dinero fue hace como 8 años, ya estaba casado y como ella vivía en otra ciudad era mas difícil visitar, al despedirse ella de mi esposa y de mi, me llamo aparte, Linito ven acá y en su cuarto, me dio algo de dinero, siendo sincero no podía aceptar, pero lo hice porque en su mirada se reflejaba el cariño y amor, si lo rechazaba, se hubiera sentido triste, así era mi abuela; en estos días me enteré que a mi hermana también le hacía igual, pero ninguno lo supo hasta ahora, y es capaz que lo hiciera con todos sus nietos alguna vez. Mi abuela siempre fue muy coqueta, tiempo después, volvimos a visitarla, luego del 2016, lamentablemente ella estaba en cama, me partió el corazón que no me reconociera, ya estaba perdiendo su memoria, ya eran mas de 90 años de vida, ya no era su Linito, como siempre me decía... yo estoy consciente de que era su enfermedad, pero así es esta vida. Por eso anhelo, el día en que pueda abrazarla y besarla y es lo segundo que me esta ayudando a sobrellevar su pérdida, la esperanza que tengo en las promesas que habla y explica la palabra de Dios, la Biblia. Claro yo respeto las creencias de cada quien, pero estoy convencido que pronto se despertara del sueño profundo en que esta, que ni el ruido mas fuerte en este mundo puede despertarla, pero pronto cuando en la tierra ya no exista ni maldad ni sufrimiento, le tocara a ella, a mis abuelos y a millones que están dormidos en la muerte despertar, será maravilloso cuando le cuente lo que se hizo por ella, hasta contarle que luego de su muerte, una de sus sobrinas e hijos que lamentablemente perdió a su mamá (cuñada de Nieves) a principios de 2021-hicieron arreglos en una ciudad de Israel, para sembrar 10 arboles en su honor con la autorización de la alcaldía; pero lo más emocionante será, presentarle a mi niño, a su bisnieto y que el pueda conocerla no en fotos sino en persona, a su linda y hermosa abuelita Nieves, será esplendido.

Of course I respect everyone's beliefs, but I am convinced that soon she will wake up from the deep sleep she is in, that not even the loudest noise in this world can wake her up, but soon when there is no more evil or suffering on earth, it will be her turn, my grandparents and millions who are asleep in death to wake up, It will be wonderful when I tell her what was done for her, even tell her that after her death, one of her nieces and children -who unfortunately lost their mother (Nieves' sister-in-law) in early 2021- made arrangements in a city in Israel, to plant 10 trees in her honor with the authorization of the mayor's office; But the most exciting thing will be to introduce my child to her great-grandson and for him to be able to meet her, not in photos but in person, his beautiful grandmother Nieves, it will be splendid.

Gracias a Jehová Dios, el día en que ella falleció, una amiga viajo junto a su esposo a Caracas y aproveche el viaje, al llegar a la casa de mi abuela, pude abrazar a mi mamá y a mis tíos y tías y consolarlos, porque aunque mi dolor estaba presente, para ellos era más doloroso aún, porque era su mamita, aproveche para reconocerles su labor y entrega, dure solo dos horas, debía estar con mi pequeño y esposa, eran pocos los días de haber salido del hospital, como apenas se había ido el doctor que hizo el informe, recuerdo que dije en su habitación, anhelo el día en que te vea de nuevo despierta en el paraíso, no fue mucho el tiempo pero fue suficiente, para estar con mamá y tíos, para mi ya era mas de un año sin verlos, por motivo de la pandemia. Al día siguiente, pude acompañar a los que fueron al cementerio por video conferencia.
