This week's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge will focus on the Balancing of Card Stats and Abilities that occurs when a new set or Airdrop happens. The reason is that we have Proposal 198 currently being voted on by Splinterlands users, which addresses this very issue of card adjustments, more specifically the balancing of the last card from the Rebellion Set Airdrop, which is Nidhoggr. Proposal 198 - Nidhoggr Adjustments

Proposal 198 was created by the folks at @thepeoplesguild with the goal of addressing possible adjustments to be made to the last card from the Rebellion Collection Airdrop, Nidhoggr, seeking to balance this new card since the community was dissatisfied with its stats and mana cost.

The Splinterlands team's idea for Nidhoggr seems to have been a card with very strong abilities like Force Reduction, but to balance it out they added a high mana cost when compared to the other Legendary Summoners in the Airdrop.

Among the adjustments proposed by The People's Guild we have the reduction of Nidhoggr's mana cost from 10 mana to 7, aiming to make it have the same mana cost as the other Airdrop summoners. However, leaving the card with the Force Reduction ability, which reduces the enemy team size by 1, would be very unbalanced, making the card extremely strong. Therefore, it was proposed to remove this ability (FORCE REDUCTION) from Nidhoggr. Furthermore, there would be a reduction in the card's Tactics from 3 to 2 monsters that could receive +2 Speed and Execute.

We can see that the card will receive a wide nerf in its abilities so that the amount of mana needed to use it will be reduced by 3. This already shows us that the community will often look for cards with a lower amount of mana, when compared to those that use more mana. The reason is that high mana consumption cards can only be used in games with a large mana pool, while low cost cards are mainly used when there is little mana available, but can also be used in games with a lot of mana.

Card Balancing

A new card won't always please everyone with their Abilities and Status, as we can see in the case of Nidhoggr, where the mana cost weighed more than the abilities for the community that was waiting for this card. However, the interesting thing about Splinterlands is precisely this: it can have strong cards, but only in some specific rules and situations.

Think about it this way, it wouldn't make sense for Nidhoggr to have these same stats and be a Neutral card with 0 mana cost, because it would go against Splinterlands' plan of encouraging players to have a larger collection of cards so that they can choose the best ones for each set of Rules and Mana. If there were a wild card in the game, it wouldn't make sense for players to have more cards and it would put an end to the whole idea of new collections and cards.

No Splinterlands Social Media Challenge dessa semana o assunto será o Balanceamento dos Status e Habilidades das Cartas que ocorre quando uma nova coleção ou Airdrop acontece. O motivo é que temos a Proposta 198 sendo votada atualmente pelos usuários do Splinterlands, que aborta justamente esse tema do ajuste de cartas, de forma mais específica o balanceamento na última das cartas do Airdrop da Coleção Rebellion, que é o Nidhoggr. Proposta 198 - Ajustes no Nidhoggr

A Proposta 198 foi criada pelo pessoal da @thepeoplesguild com o objetivo de abordar possíveis ajustes a serem feitos na última carta do Airdrop da Coleção Rebellion, o Nidhoggr, buscando balancear essa nova carta já que a comunidade ficou insatisfeita com os status e custo de mana.

A ideia do time do Splinterlands para o Nidhoggr parece ter sido uma carta com habilidades muito fortes como o Force Reduction, mas para balancear colocaram um custo de Mana Elevado quando comparado com os demais Summoners Lendários do Airdrop.

Dentre os ajustes propostos pela The People’s Guild temos a redução do custo de mana do Nidhoggr de 10 mana para 7, buscando fazer com que ele fique no mesmo custo de mana dos demais summoners do Airdrop. Entretanto, deixar a carta com a habilidade Force Reduction, que reduz em 1 o tamanho do time inimigo seria muito desbalanceado, fazendo com que a carta ficasse extremamente forte. Por isso, foi proposto a remoção dessa habilidade (FORCE REDUCTION) do Nidhoggr. Ainda, haveria uma redução no Tactics da carta de 3 para 2 monstros que poderão receber +2 de Speed e Execute.

Podemos observar que a carta vai levar um amplo nerfs em suas habilidades para que a quantidade de mana necessária para usá-la seja reduzida em 3. Isso já nos mostra que a comunidade muita vezes buscará cartas com quantidade de mana menor, quando comparamos com as que usam mais mana. O motivo é que as cartas de alto consumo de mana só podem ser usadas em partidas com uma grande Pool de mana, enquanto as de menor custo são usadas principalmente quando há pouca mana disponível, mas também podem ser usadas em partidas com muita mana.

Balanceamento de Cartas

Nem sempre uma nova carta vai agradar a todos com as suas Habilidades e Status como podemos observar no caso do Nidhoggr, em que o custo de mana pesou mais do que as habilidades para a comunidade que estava esperando essa carta. Entretanto, o interessante do Splinterlands é justamente isso, pode sim ter cartas fortes, mas apenas em algumas regras e situações específicas.

Pensa assim, não faria sentido o Nidhoggr ter esses mesmos status e ser uma carta Neutra com custo 0 de mana, porque seria ir contra o plano do Splinterlands em incentivar os jogadores à ter uma coleção maior de cartas para que escolham as melhores para cara conjunto de Regras e Mana. Se houvesse uma carta coringa no jogo, não faria sentido para os jogadores terem mais cartas e acabaria toda a ideia de novas coleções e cartas.
