Every girl keeps the image of a man of her dreams in her heart. He has the personality traits which she would like to see in her chosen one. In real life, ideal men don’t exist. However, there is a certain set of personal qualities which are considered to be the top-priority personality traits in men.

В сердце каждой девушки хранится образ парня её мечты. Он имеет те черты характера, которые она хотела бы видеть в своём избраннике. В реальной жизни идеальных мужчин не бывает, но существует определённый набор качеств, считающихся приоритетными чертами мужской личности.

When I think which personality trait characterizes the representatives of the stronger sex most accurately, I come to the conclusion that this is the ability to keep word. Unfortunately, not all men can be called the men of their word. Though, anyone can develop this trait which is very important in life by oneself. Mahatma Gandhi stated this thought aptly when he said, "Personally, I hold that a man, who deliberately and intelligently takes a pledge and then breaks it, forfeits his manhood". I would like to add for myself that the ability to meet his commitments, decency, and reliability are the masculine virtues of equal significance. And we, the girls, need them the most.

Когда я думаю о том, какое свойство характера наиболее ярко характеризует представителей сильного пола, я прихожу к выводу, что это - умение держать слово. Увы, человеком слова можно назвать далеко не всех мужчин, хотя каждый может воспитать столь нужное в жизни качество самостоятельно. Очень точно выразился Махатма Ганди, который сказал: «Лично я считаю, что человек, который сознательно и разумно даёт обещание и затем нарушает его, утрачивает свою мужественность». Хотелось бы добавить от себя, что умение выполнять данные обязательства, порядочность и надёжность - мужские достоинства одного порядка, в которых мы, девушки, нуждаемся больше всего.

A man who possesses these personal qualities is ready to lend his shoulder without big words to anyone who needs his help. Just the deeds, not the words matter in difficult and dangerous situations. And though he doesn’t claim his love ten times a day, his deeds tell of his devotion better than the flowers of speech. With a man who shows his love with his deeds, a woman feels secure, calm, and confident in the future. On the contrary, excessive talkativeness and boastfulness are often the signs of superficialism. So, the girls should take such suitors with a grain of salt.

Мужчина, обладающий ими, готов без громких слов подставить плечо тому, кто нуждается в его помощи. Именно дела, а не слова приобретают значение в сложных и опасных ситуациях. И пусть он не клянется в любви по десять раз на дню - поступки говорят о его преданности лучше цветистых фраз. Если мужчина доказывает любовь действием, рядом с ним женщина чувствует себя защищенной, спокойной и уверенной в завтрашнем дне. Излишняя разговорчивость и бахвальство, напротив, - зачастую являются признаками легковесности, и девушкам следует критичнее относиться к таким ухажёрам.

A strong man doesn’t make boast of his achievements. Whatever happens, he keeps his word even if redemption of the promise is associated with the inconvenience, loss of time, and loss of profit. This requires a strong will and self-discipline. People say that such men practise what they preach. Self-exactingness is the cornerstone of their character. A strong man never tries to lighten his burden at the expense of others. This man doesn’t goof off. Moreover, he sets high standards not only for himself, but also for others.

Сильный мужчина не хвастает достижениями. Что бы ни случилось, он держит слово, даже если выполнение обещанного сопряжено с неудобствами, потерей времени и материальной выгоды. Это требует сильной воли и самодисциплины. О таких людях говорят, что у них слова не расходятся с делами. В основе их характера лежит большая требовательность к себе. Сильный мужчина никогда не старается облегчить свою ношу за счёт других, не отлынивает от работы, но такие же высокие стандарты устанавливает и для других.

Having such a man among relatives or colleagues, people around him recognize his leadership regardless of whether it is confirmed by the official status or not. Communication with a strong man is a good school of life because such a mentor sets an example with his own work and way of life. Finally, I want to give another quotation by Marcus Aurelius who said, "Do not waste time discussing what a good man should be. Be him".

Имея среди близких или коллег такого человека, окружающие признают его лидерство, независимо от того, закреплено ли оно официальным статусом. Общение с сильным мужчиной является хорошей школой жизни, потому что такой наставник показывает пример собственным трудом и образом жизни. Напоследок хочу привести ещё одну цитату, принадлежащую Маркусу Орилиусу: «Не тратьте впустую время, обсуждая, каким хороший мужчина должен быть. Будьте им».

I’m lucky because the example of the true man was before my eyes throughout the whole of my adult life. And that person is my father. For me, there is no more reliable support than this dear man. My father became for me that teacher with the deeds of whom I could compare my own thoughts and actions.

Мне повезло - пример настоящего мужчины был перед моими глазами в течение всей сознательной жизни, и этой личностью является отец. Для меня не существует опоры надёжней, чем этот дорогой человек. Папа стал для меня тем наставником, по которому я могла сверять свои мысли и действия.

With his every deed, he shows me an example of the correct attitude towards people. Will my father approve what I’m going to do? The answer to this question has always been the main criterion of the correctness of my actions. Quiet, not talkative, and smiling, even now he has a great influence on me remaining my best friend and adviser.

Каждым поступком он показывает пример правильного отношения к людям. Одобрит ли отец то, что я собираюсь сделать? Ответ на этот вопрос всегда был главным критерием правильности моих действий. Спокойный, немногословный и улыбчивый, он и сейчас имеет на меня большое влияние, оставаясь лучшим другом и советчиком.
