The plants that accompany us often go unnoticed, as they are always there and we become accustomed to their presence; but how important it is to look at plant species and appreciate these beautiful, intelligent beings that provide us with many benefits.

An example of a plant that can go unnoticed is Lippia alba, or, as it's known in Venezuela, lemon balm, although it's called differently in other countries. For example, in Mexico, they call it Salvia Sija, in Brazil, pitiona, candó... in short, many names for the same plant.

This shrub, native to the Americas, ranging from the southern United States to northern South America, can reach a height of one and a half meters. It is a plant that can grow very bushy, spreading rapidly under optimal conditions. Its leaves and small flowers, which grow in small clusters, are particularly aromatic. These flowers closely resemble those of Lantana trifolia (Lantana trifolia).

> Este arbusto, que es nativo de América, distribuyéndose desde el Sur de los Estados Unidos hasta el Norte de Sudamérica, puede llegar a alcanzar el metro y medio de longitud. Es una planta que puede llegar a ser muy frondosa, propagándose rápidamente si cuenta con las condiciones óptimas. Tiene la particularidad de ser muy aromática, tanto sus hojas como sus pequeñas flores, que crecen en pequeños grupos. Estas florecillas se asemejan mucho a las de Lantana trifolia (cariaquito).

Several specimens of Lippia alba grow on my land, and I can say they are very resistant to water shortages and also adapt to poor soils. I really enjoy watching the bees approaching, both Melipona and Apis. In the photos, there's an Apis bee sipping on the flowers. Butterflies also delight in these tiny flowers.

> En mi solar crecen varios ejemplares de Lippia alba, y puedo decir que son muy resistentes a la escasez de agua, y también se adapta a suelos pobres. Me agrada mucho ver cómo se acercan las abejas, tanto Meliponas como Apis. En las fotos hay una abeja Apis libando las flores. Las mariposas también se deleitan con estas florecillas.

Among the benefits this plant offers is that, with proper care, it can be used for ornamental purposes. It also produces honey, serving as food for small pollinators. For human health, it can be used as a sedative and antidepressant. It is ideal for teas that relieve stomach upset and the flu. It can be used to season certain dishes; it has a very pleasant flavor and aroma, due to its essential oils.

> Dentro de los beneficios que ofrece esta planta es que, con adecuado cuidado, puede usarse para fines ornamentales. También es melífera, sirve de alimento a pequeños polinizadores. Para la salud humana puede servir como sedante, antidepresivo. Es ideal para tés que alivien el malestar estomacal y la gripe. Puede usarse para condimentar ciertos platos, tiene un sabor y olor muy agradables, que se deben a los aceites esenciales que posee.
