Here it is what I do in my life; I'm studying to become an Egyptologist and translate stuff like that is one of my duties. Sometimes is very hard, this is not the only language we have to learn; Sanskrit, Hebraic, Arabian and Aramaic are some of the languages we are studying. Obviously, the most important one for an Egyptologist is Ancient Egypt, and I spend the main part of my day reading and translating Hieroglyphs. At a first sight they might seem all the same (and after hours spent reading them, even for me they are equals ;)), but there are more than 700 symbols and for an excellent translation and analysis of the text you have to refer a lot of books. It’s a never-ending work :(!
Today I went back and forth between the University' libraries searching some specialised books (sometimes I wish I could be Hermione Granger whit her Timeturner!), and when I finally got out for dinner, this is the amazing view I saw.
At least, I live in a wonderful city that let me admire these amazing glimpses!
Questo è il genere di cose che faccio nella vita; sto studiando per diventare un'egittologa e tradurre cose incomprensibili come queste è parte del mio lavoro. Non è semplice, certe volte è impossibile, anche perché non è l'unica lingua che dobbiamo imparare; tra il Sanscrito, l'Ebraico, l'Arabo, l'Aramaico e l'Accadico di sicuro, però, la lingua dell'antico Egitto è quella più importante per noi. Passo la maggior parte delle mie giornate a leggere e a tradurre geroglifici; ai più sembreranno tutti uguali ( e anche per me, dopo una giornata passata a tradurre devo dire che mi si incrociano gli occhi e mi sembrano tutti la stessa cosa ;)), ma esistono più di 700 simboli! Per una precisa analisi testuale e un'accurata traduzione di un testo c'è bisogno di consultare numerosi volumi, per la maggior parte vecchissimi (e "leggerissimi" sia in termini di volume che di contenuto) libri della prima metà del secolo scritti in tedesco, e molto spesso un testo può portarti via intere giornate.
Oggi, per l'appunto, ho macinato chilometri andando avanti e indietro tra le biblioteche universitarie in cerca di libri specialistici (quante volte ho sognato di avere la Giratempo di Hermione Granger per riuscire a fare tutto!), e quando finalmente ho ri-assaggiato la libertà ecco la meravigliosa vista che mi si è parata davanti.
Per lo meno, vivo in una città magnifica che mi permette di ammirare questi scorci meravigliosi, dopo una giornata di duro lavoro.
