The Red Panda also called "The Red fox" or "Firefox" are very cute, adorable, and very skillful animals.
They are acrobatic and predominantly stay in trees most of the time. Almost 50% of the Red Pandas habitat is in the Eastern Himalayas.
They love high altitude mountains and forests.
These are beautiful and peaceful animals.
They are solitary, except during mating season.
Usually, females pandas give birth in the spring and summer.
After the red panda was discovered in the 1820s, it was called "panda", however the origin of the name is controversial. The name originally comes from the Nepali word "ponya" meaning bamboo or plant-eating.
I took these pictures at the Cincinnati Zoo, I really enjoyed watching this lovely and unique creature.
I felt like jumping over the fence and hugging them and playing with them! :-D
They use their long, bushy tails for balance and to cover themselves in the cool winter.
They love to eat bamboo or plants and young leaves only.
The red panda is under a growing threat caused by climate change which is impacting all species around the globe!
Only 10,000 are currently free in the wild! This is why they are on the endangered species list!
These animals need cool weather to survive. Unfortunately, due to global warming, the Earth is getting hotter and this makes it more difficult for the Red panda to survive!
There are several funny, true stories about their ability to escape from captivity!
"Beware: Red pandas are escape artists!"
Red Pandas have escaped from Zoos around the world, including London and Germany.
What method did they use to escape? :-D
A single tree branch is enough for them!!! ;-D
In the zoo, humans try to match pandas with their better half! :-) They pair male and female pandas to encourage them to form a family and leave their wild ways behind and settle down.
The Red pandas asked me to share this message with the world, to let everybody know about them. We need to take care of these endangered animals, which desperately need our help for their continued survival on our planet.
The Red pandas say they are losing their habitat, the one I saw told me "My friends are disappearing rapidly! Please help us!"
Thankfully there are several awesome organizations that are working to conserve our Red panda species, but lets all do our part to help take care of all of our animals, so that future generations can enjoy their beauty!
