Drawing heroes

“The first function of mythology is showing everything as a metaphor to transcendence.” - Joseph Campbell

I always loved to draw heroes. Always, from my early years. It was so natural to respond to the myths which inspired me by drawing the Hero (or the villain) or someone else from the story.

Drawing someone's likeness is quite a heavy task (at least for me) and to draw with pen - even harder since you cannot fix a thing. But when I draw mythology heroes (even depicted by well-known actors) I start to meditate not only on the likeness but on my own impression and feeling, it's like revisiting the story, the place or the dream.

"It has always been the prime function of mythology and rite to supply the symbols that carry the human spirit forward, in counteraction to those that tend to tie it back" - Joseph Campbell.

I hope this post was interesting, dear fellow Steemians! I will share my other heroes doodles in the future posts.
