Hey dear Hive friends, first of all I would like to wish you all a pleasant day and hope you are all well and your day is full of positive experiences! Today I would like to introduce an interesting mineral and hope you can learn something new.
The mineral that can be seen here is called magnetite and it is one of the minerals with the strongest magnetic properties due to the high iron content which is usually over 70%. As a mineral with magnetic properties, it is already very deeply anchored in history and has already been mentioned by the Roman scholar Pliny the elder and there are various myths about the origin of the name and according to traditions, a Greek shepherd named Magnes once found this mineral and other sources report that it was based on the Greek landscape of Magnesia in Thessaly. The term magnet is probably also associated with the mineral and originated in the Middle Ages and it received the final name Magnetite from the Austrian minerlogist Wilhelm Haidinger (1795 - 1871). The strength of the magnetic properties can be attributed entirely to the formation of the crystals and other magnetic minerals are Hematite, Augite, Chromite, Braunite or Nickel. There are different ways to detect magnetic minerals, such as holding a compass to the mineral or using materials such as pins to which the iron particles can attract.
The formation of magnetite can be traced back to volcanic activities and it can also be converted into hematite by pseudomorphosis. The mineral is widespread pretty much everywhere worldwide and among the best-known places of discovery are Scandinavia, North and South America, Russia, Austria or Japan and from an industrial point of view it is one of the most important ores for the mining of iron. It was also of great interest as a color pigment and it is of great interest for special research purposes because it has been found in some living beings and can probably be of interest as a for research when it comes to the interaction with the magnetic field of the earth. It is also of great importance by the electronics industry and is used in many different areas and is used in the production of computers or other electronic devices. In the past, it was often associated with magic due to its magnetic properties and it was believed that it had the ability to attract magical and powerful energies.
It was already used in ancient Greece and Egypt and was also associated with the god of the blacksmiths Vulcanus from Roman mythology and the equivalent Hephaestus from Greek mythology. Magnetite is also associated with the element earth and have often been associated with grounding, strength or spirituality from a symbolic point of view and according to legends it represents a connection to the earth. It is often advertised as a healing stone and here there are various areas of application and it can be particularly interesting to strengthen the own balance and improve the immune system. It can also play an important role in sharpening the psychic abilities and have a positive effect on the chakra system or the third eye. As always, it should be noted that minerals are alternative medicine and you should always ask your doctor or pharmacist of trust for the right medicine and dosage!
