This unique mineral which can be seen here, also bears the name schorl and it also belongs to the tourmaline group. This specimen originally comes from Italy and was found in a mine near the lake como and schorl is usually also referred to as black tourmaline and refers to iron and sodium-containing tourmaline, but the chemical composition can vary and often also contains silica and boron. Schorl is probably the best-known mineral from the tourmaline group and is one of the most common from the group and with over 90% the most common from this group and probably also one of the most interesting when it comes to the properties. One of the most important properties is that it is a pyroelectric rock, which means that it generates electrical charge by heating or by vertical pressure and generates a magnetic field and electricity flows through the mineral.

Even through strong friction, you can theoretically achieve this effect and this property makes it particularly interesting for use in the electronics sector and it is good to know that you can generate electricity with the help of this mineral! Another important property is that it is strongly magnetic which is due to the high iron content and tourmaline has been known since ancient times and the first written mention which I could find already date back to the 14th century. It is a rather common mineral which is created by magmatic origins and it can also be created in a metamorphic way and the typical black or brown appearance probably makes it an absolute eye-catcher. Due to the component it contains, schorl is also extremely interesting as a raw material from an industrial point of view and it is also used for the production of fireproof glass or porcelain.

It is also often used by the textile industry because it has the property of attracting dust and it is also processed into jewelry or sold as a healing stone. As a healing stone, it can show many positive properties on health and so, for example, it can have a strengthening effect on the immune system and be used against inflammation or bacterial diseases and it is also very important from a spiritual point of view. It can have a positive effect on the chakra system and help bring all 7 main chakras into a good balance and it can also have a positive effect on the third eye and it can also be useful for grounding purposes. As always, it is important to mention here that this is alternative medicine and of course you should always ask your doctor or pharmacist about the right medicine!

From a symbolic point of view, it is often associated with the element earth and it is also associated as a protection mineral or positive energy as well as self-confidence, longing as well as the zodiac signs Gemini, Libra and Scorpio. From a mythological point of view, it is deeply anchored and was regarded by many ancient cultures as a guardian symbol and due to the color diversity of some minerals from the tourmaline group, the ancient Egyptians thought that it once came from the earth and touched the rainbow. In ancient Indian ceremonies it was often associated with spiritual enlightenment and higher forces and the goddess kali as well as magic and also in ancient Greece it was associated with the goddess of magic and the moon hecate. The mineral is also deeply anchored in other ancient cultures and is very diverse and what makes this mineral additionally interesting are the electrical properties.
