One Million Dollar... The amount is something, probably all artists dream of, for getting for one of their works at some point in their career... unfortunately its not the price tag, but the theme of an exhibition, I participated in.
It was a group show, and we were given the size, 100x230cm (40"x90").. pretty big, I might add, and in the upper right corner there was to be written $ 1000000
To me it was clear, that there had to be a doll like figure, part of a machinery, which she was revealing at the same time:
I had the idea while sitting in a restaurant and so I made a quick sketch on a tiny piece of paper, like the one waiters use here in Germany:
The painting is on canvas and I did it in my old masters technique
As usual I started with an underpainting in acrylics
Here a detail of the work in progress.
I underpaint skin tones in green as it looks more realistic later on
After some 3000 hours it looked like this:
