There is one thing that i enjoy immensely about living in Bangkok and that is when i wonder of for a walk i never plan or known where i am going to end up today for my Sunday walk i decided to wonder of into the old suburban local areas of Bangkok through all them little ally ways, you don't know where they are going to lead you if it's going to be a dead-end ally or just going to wind around into another tiny ally all makes it so interesting.

What mostly intrigues me amongst other things of course is admiring these old wooden houses as i am walking through these little ally ways can't help wondering about the history behind these magnificent old wooden houses. Some are so run down that it surprises me how people are able to still live in them but of course it's a family generation thing that keeps them hanging on to them and supposedly they wouldn't have the monies to restore them so they have no choice but to live in them the best way they can.

It's hard to imagine that this house and like many others are right in heart of Bangkok city with all its condominiums, supermarkets and office blocks surrounding around these old wooden houses.

Often many relatives are found living under one roof. Old parents don't go to retirement houses they stay with their children and Grandchildren.

Each of these wooden houses have their own distinct characteristics and designs based on the region's history and culture.

Caught these two ladies hard at work cutting down a tree and cleaning up the scrub trying to keep the old wooden house safe from snakes and over growth.

In Thailand, many of these old wooden houses have two floors. The bottom floor is usually work area to sell some goods it could be food or clothing whatever might make some money for them and top floor is the living quarters.

This is Electric Fan repair and Electric Fan spare parts shop under an old wooden house which is the next biggest business apart from air conditioner's. I hope he knows were all his parts are and were they are ...lol :)

*Sorry to spoil the the B&W viewing ...But their is so much beautiful color in this Fan shop i had to show this photo in color...!!

I actually really enjoy looking and photographing older Thai wooden house but unfortunately they are fast disappearing in Bangkok because of the growing demand for land to build high rises and also sadly even disappearing in the provinces, their popularity is fading in favor of modern concrete houses. I do hope that the few remain and are preserved they are so precious and hold so much history and memories.

Thank you @ace108 for hosting #beautifulsunday and thank you @c0ff33a for hosting #SublimeSunday.
