LUT Studio #22 My DIY Jewelry 我的手工首飾

If you've been following my blog, you will have noticed that recently I have started acrylic pouring. This is a form orf abstract painting where you pour acrylic paint on a canvas to create abstract patterns. I've been having a lot of fun experimenting and sharing my output through my LUT Studio posts. As part of the creation process, I've picked up another side hobby.

When the paint is poured onto the canvas, a lot of it drips off onto the worktop. I hate wasting paint and one way to make the most of them is to collect the skins when the paint has dried. I transfer these from my worktop to a plastic folder and use them to decorate random things.

Last week I tried it out on an Ikea photo frame. I'm loving how a simple cheap photo frame can be transformed into something so unique.

Another very popular use for skin is to make jewellery. You might have seen them at art and craft markets before. The pattern on the skin are all unique and looks really stunning when placed on jewellery. You can use them to make pendants, rings, ear rings, key rings, snaps, brooches etc. The list is endless. The other week, I bought some pendants and other bits and bobs to make some jewellery with my skins.

I got three different style of pendants and they all come with a clear cabachon. These two are called Tibetian style and I think they look gorgeous as they are. The pendants are quite small - only 10mm, next time I'll have to get some slightly larger ones. However, the cabachons have a convex surface which magnifies the beautiful pattern underneath.

This other round pendant has a tray on both sides. I thought it would look quite odd if I left one side empty, so I'm going to use them to make earrings. I was thinking whether I should make each one with the same colour on both sides, or have different colours on each side. In the end, I decided on the latter. The alternate colour is on the back of these earring but the pattern is similar so you can tell they are a pair. My only concern is whether they will be too heavy to wear. They don't seem that heavy, so I will have to try them on for a day once I assemble the other bits on.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do with these yet. I'll probably gift them to friends as I think they're really pretty, and who doesn't like pretty jewellery? I may even give them away to other Steemians. Would you be interested?
