New Game Coming To Steem: NextColony

It was recently announced that there will be a new game on the Steem blockchain called NextColony.

This is a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) which became very popular over the last couple decades. It is evidently modeled after OGame which is browser based and had over 2 million accounts.

It is a game that deals with different galaxies, systems, and planets. For those who are not familiar with this game, a full write up is found here.

They are presently auctioning off the first 3 of name planets. There will be 3 auctions taking place with 3 planets in each.

The reason for the auction (other than raising money) is to enable users to stand out in the game. This is a way to stand out from the crowd in the game.

The auction and further information can be found at https://nextcolony.io/.

@art-universe also put together a video that really delves into more details.

According to the video, the development still has about 4 weeks to go before the game is fully released.

This is another situation where we see developers opting to build upon the Steem blockchain. The fact that we have a dedicated community makes it appealing.

We all know gaming is big business. I find it fascinating that we are seeing many games replicated that were popular decades ago when the technology was not as good as it is today. Blockchain, being so young, is a throwback to those days. Over time, we will see scaling and other additions which will allow for more in-depth development.

As for this project, it is modeling a successful game although I will say that 2 million does not sound too large to me. In the gaming world, there are games that have hundreds of millions of users. Nevertheless, if a fraction of those users create an account on Steem and play the game, it will be a major windfall.

A project like this should make everyone optimistic. We are going to see dozens of similar ones over the next year or so. All will serve to draw some people to Steem. Collectively, they can really be a big boost to the interest of what is taking place on within this ecosystem.

I was chatting with a developer earlier today about the prospects of Steem. While it is still under the radar for the main publications (cointelegraph, etc..), we are facing a future where that will not be the case. The blockchains that get all the attention are having issues of their own.

Steem is growing and expanding at a steady pace. Each month puts us much further ahead of where we were.

I look forward to the feedback from the gaming community about the prospects of this project.
