We talk a lot on here about marketing of Steem. My feeling is we need the applications to do this. However, there was a post yesterday that showed the key to massive Steem success.
@actifit did a post mentioning their latest sponsored atheltes. These are a couple of professional badminton players from Sri Lanka. While this ordinarily would not be major news, what really caught my attention is that they sought out Actifit, not the other way around.
This is the ideal setup of the applications. They start to get a little attention and word of mouth spreads. In this instance, these athletes are Steemians who probably heard about Actifit on here. Nevertheless, I am sure @mcfarhat appreciates people coming to him.
We have a number of applications that have similar ability. One, of course, is @steemmonsters. This is a game that is becoming very popular. Not being a gamer myself, I cannot gauge the reach outside. Nevertheless, with the success of WoW and other games, this could be a very hot property on the Steem blockchain.
There is something else that is very exciting. We all know that the cannabis industry is growing (no pun intended). Canada legalized it while certain states in the U.S are doing the same. Each year, most states put something related to it on the ballot with most initiatives being passed by voters. This certainly is a growing industry.
We are soon going to have an application that combines the two. In other words, ther will be cannabis and gaming. HashKings teamed up with @canna-curate while bringing the project to Steem.
HashKings is a Crypto Cannabis Farming and Trading game. They are introducing a number of tokens associated with this. I sense this is a smoker's Steemmonsters. Instead of fighting, one grows pot.
Here is a post explaining what they are doing.

The cannabis industry is one that is expanding. This is another area where I feel we can attract users to Steem. This trading game could become very popular with digital assets.
While the article talks about Ethereum, I do believe they are using @shredz7's Stratos smart contracts for some of the tokens.
These projects should give us some insight into the potential of Steem. Adoption will come as the applications garner the interest of people. Word of mouth is the best advertising in the world. There is a lot to offer here and the masses are going to find out.
We are still in the early days yet there are many projects that can garner a lot of outside attention. Having such a strong, consistent community means that people entering the ecosystem will find a lot to keep their interest. I think we overlook the fact that one log in enables one to access all the applications on this blockchain. That is unheard of.
We also see the applications targeting different markets. It is far easier to gain attention when focusing on specifics as opposed to general. Social media is a very broad field. While not as large, cryptocurrency and blockchain is a crowded arena and only growing. Yet something like Actifit concentrating on the wearable market means it can make a name for itself. It already integrates with 2 of the top 5 most popular companies.
The faucet is only putting out a few drips right now but it will turn into a flood at some point. As we keep progressing along, I believe people will start seeking out the applications on Steem as opposed to the other way around.
