So is Maya Forstater correct?
I actually don't agree with her point. Because the argument is based on how advanced gender reassignment procedures currently are. I always make it a point to never say never when it comes to advancements in science and technology. So what I am saying is that while she may be correct right now, she probably wont be in 5-10 years. So why bother to make this point now?
We should all be on the same page that this is inevitable... I think it is anyway.
Not only will it technically be possible to reassign gender but eventually we will probably be going in the direction of being anything we want to be. At this point most identity politics will become completely redundant.
- Human cloning and genetic engineering will be a thing.
- Real life cat girls will be a thing.
- Furries that do not need a fur suit will be a thing.
- Artificial wombs will be a thing.
In an environment like this transforming ones self from gender to gender is easily possible. Even with the ability for full procreation capabilities. Yeah, I am out right saying that in a matter of decades, its entirely possible for someone who was born as a male to give birth. It will utilize different methods sure. It may be extremely different than we may be expecting.
But its going to happen.
So yeah, I guess I agree that some people are pretty delusional right now regarding the topic. Its pretty annoying to see people who exploit the concept for personal gain in very odd ways.
In this day and age there are huge benefits to changing your gender outside of gender dysphoria. You can use it as a tool to brand yourself and gain attention you normally would never have gotten. Its actually very common right now in the virtual reality scene. Female avatars are extremely common while the player base is predominantly male.
One of the main criticisms I have had regarding the movie Ready Player One is that they didn't really understand the dynamic of how common it would be for people to play as female avatars. While they touched on the topic they really missed the mark by about 75%... lol
Ultimately this stuff is going to become a giant joke. People with cyborg robot bodies that can switch into any form they want is going to kinda make the entire discussion pointless. Genetic engineering can and probably will some day have people customizing their organic bodies into literally anything.
At that point its really more about not giving a shit.
Anything goes.
I think J.K. Rowling chose a pretty pointless hill to die on. But whatever. Maybe she will stop virtue signalling now.
