Here are my photos for this week of the Silver-spotted Skipper.

Silver-spotted Skippers are the largest of the Skipper butterflies in North America. They have a wingspan of 1 3/4" - 2 1/2". When the wings are closed you can see a large silvery patch on the lower hindwings. I think that @janton from Texas will agree with me that the patch looks similar to the state of Texas.

It is fun to watch them dart up, down and all around, skipping from flower to flower to sip nectar. They like many different flowers but are mostly seen on flowers that are red, pink, purple and blue. It has been said that the Silver-spotted skippers do not stop on yellow flowers and there was no explanation as to why. One of their favorites is red clover which can be seen in these photos.

Thanks for stopping by!
