My wife @MediKatie and I saw some great doctors at the cancer clinic in Vancouver recently. Today, she was finally written a true prescription for the cannabis she's been using since she was a teen. It could have potentially destroyed her spinal cancer without surgery or radiation, when she was a kid, but prohibition kept that potential treatment hidden.
So today was pretty big for us. I'd like to share something I wrote for her about it:
MediKatie,
I liked how the doctors we've seen at VGH are aware cannabinoids have medicinal properties. It has been known since the 90s by researchers and experts, but when I was trained in 2000 or so, there was nothing about cannabis. And in 2018 we've only finally managed to get some specialists up to speed on it.
In any case, this is a special day, and you've done a lot of hard work for this. You've been assaulted physically and verbally, threatened, blackmailed, blacklisted, arrested, slandered, discriminated against, stolen from, evicted, thrown in jail, and hurt by family. All because you've needed cannabis to stay alive and healthy.
There are few crueler experiences for a person to go through, and ALL of it was done intentionally and maliciously by people who should have known better.
You've been wronged in some of the worst possible ways, and you've always been completely innocent. Let that sink in.
Furthermore, you've had the restraint to avoid giving most of your tormentors the verbal lashing they so clearly deserve. Your strength and grace are powerful.
This piece of paper is a symbol of all of that, and more.
And yet, it's just a useless piece of paper which shouldn't even be required. We are all free to use plants in any way we deem fit. And yet, this piece of paper can stop 10 armed prohibitionist thugs, all drooling to find your dabs and a promotion.
As "legalization" (supposedly) approaches, and prohibition doubles down, what happened today is a victory, and I'm proud of you.
