The festival is usually referred to as the Spring Festival in modern China and is one of several Lunar New Years in Asia ๐ŸŒ.

These signs are the rat ๐Ÿญ, ox ๐Ÿ‚, tiger ๐Ÿฏ, rabbit ๐Ÿฐ, dragon ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿ‰, snake ๐Ÿ, horse ๐Ÿด, goat ๐Ÿ, monkey ๐Ÿต, rooster ๐Ÿ”, dog ๐Ÿถand pig ๐Ÿท. There are a lot of symbolic dishes served during Chinese New Year eve. Each individual dish is steeped in tradition and is a homonym for a particular blessing for the upcoming year, such as "have a lot of fun" ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜œ or "make a lot of money ๐Ÿ’ฑ๐Ÿ’ณ๐Ÿ’ฒ.

Name and look for each dish is symbol of wishes for prosperity, happiness ๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ˜น and auspiciousness. Such as,

Fish ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŽฃis a must for the Chinese New Year. Why does fish symbolize surplus and wealth ๐Ÿ’ฒ? In Chinese, fish (้ฑผ) has the same pronunciation as ไฝ™, which means โ€œsurplusโ€ or โ€œextra.โ€ The typical blessing is ๅนดๅนดๆœ‰ไฝ™, wishing you to have a surplus (or fish) of food and money ๐Ÿ’ฒ every year.

Long Noodles ๐Ÿœor Misua symbolize long life ๐Ÿง“๐Ÿ‘ต

Long noodles ๐Ÿœ represent longevity ๐Ÿง“๐Ÿ‘ต. They usually are served uncut. Misua signifies long life, and the noodle is also a traditional birthday ๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿพ dish.

Rice ๐Ÿš Cake ๐Ÿฐ or Nian Gao symbolize a Higher โ‡ง Income ๐Ÿ’ท๐Ÿ’ต๐Ÿ’ธ or Position

Nian gao also has the same pronunciation as ้ซ˜ (gฤo). Itโ€™s a wish to be successful and โ€œhigherโ€ โฌ† each year. Every year will be better than the last. Some humorous parents ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง like to tell their children that eating this will help them grow taller โซ too ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚.
They are either made of sticky glutinous rice or yellow rice, giving nian gao two major colors and textures.

Spring roll, or chun juan symbolize wealth ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ถ

Spring roll is a dim sum dish that's named after the Spring Festival. The words chun juan literally mean spring and roll. The golden color of the fried spring rolls represent gold bars โ€” which, of course, symbolize wealth ๐Ÿ˜š๐Ÿคญ.

3.Red Envelope or Ang Pow ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜›

The money ๐Ÿค‘ in red envelopes is also known as ๅŽ‹ๅฒ้’ฑ ๐Ÿ’Ÿ. Literally, it is โ€œmoney ๐Ÿ’ต to anchor the year.โ€ It is also known as โ€œlucky moneyโ€ or โ€œNew Yearโ€™s money.โ€ Ang pow normally given by married couples ๐Ÿ‘ซ and parents ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง to children ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿง’ and single youths ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿ‘ฉ. Red packets symbolise luck and are supposed to ward off evil spirits ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ‘ฟ. When adults give red packets to children, they will say ๐Ÿ—ฃ something auspicious by way of blessing ๐Ÿค—.
