Color Challenge Friday Blue - "SPEEDWELL" ~ © Tiffany E. Reed

Anyone who is a perfectionist about their lawn — which does NOT include me — has likely battled many different "weeds" that try to take hold in their otherwise pristine ecosystems. Plants such as dandelions and woodsorrel sometimes creep in, often because of something a bird ate, and pooped out, later.

Another of those plants that is common in pastures as well as lawns is Speedwell. While researching several sites on the Internet to identify this pretty little flower, I learned that there are several different species, but this is likely Veronica persica — also known as Common Speedwell, Birdeye Speedwell, or Persian Speedwell. The plant was originally native to Europe and Asia, but has become widespread as an introduced species in many areas, including the US and Canada.

This is another entry in the ColorChallenge which @kalemandra began. It's been such fun participating in it each day since I've been here!
