RE: Name YOUR decentralized social network?

Well as is unpredictably¹ and spontaneously the case for an artistic or creative type of personality, I woke up with an idea that suddenly shifted my thoughts process about the naming choices.

I woke up thinking ‘interdata’ (as an analogy to interstate and internet) and ‘interfuge’, then I realized Interbits is much more catchy, three instead of four syllables, and with mass market appeal. And the naturally fit token name is also catchy and obviously ibits.

This is not an entirely new idea for me, because Netbits (and Bitnet, Hyperbits, Funbits, Coolbits, Yoobits, etc) were already contemplated in my 2015 thread. I think I was trying to keep it abbreviated in 2015 and I wanted to avoid another “Bit____” copycoin name. Many people expected the project I was working on to be named Bitnet, so Interbits would be in the same genre of naming.

The difference being that at least in my mind Interbits strongly associates with Internet. So Internet provides us the global network and Interbits provides the global database. The ‘inter-’ prefix stipulates the external or global attribute.

Thus I think it doesn’t get lost in the sea of “____bits” and “net____” names, because there’s only one Inter(net)+bits name.

I think the ibits token name is superior to CRED, because it is more hi-tech and connotes iPhone and mobile.

Interbits is probably not the best app name though. It is more appropriate for a portal of apps. Thus I think we could still use our Uncommons and/or Oodles app names.

There is already an Interbit blockchain which is trademarked and the company is listed on a Canadian stock exchange. There some speculator buzz and they have a business relationship with Visa.

However, they announced Interbit sometime in 2016. The Ibits project below was announced in 2015. So they can’t claim a trademark on Ibits and it’s dubious whether they could claim Interbits infringes on their trademark, given they can be seen as copying the idea from Ibits below. Additionally, to prove infringment requires showing that their customers would be so confused, but they are targeting B2B and enterprise customers, not a mass market website:

Interbit is a blockchain development platform designed for business innovators and developers to quickly and easily incorporate the best of blockchain capabilities into enterprise applications.

Also Netbits (and Hyperbits, Funbits, Coolbits, Yoobits, etc) were already contemplated in my 2015 thread.

If ever they sue and manage to shut down the interbits.* domains and Interbit appstore apps, then we can pivot to the ibits.* domains and Ibits appstore apps.

Apparently there was a now defunct ibit.com altcoin project. Also in 2015 there was an Ibits ICO token focused on recording proof-of-existence of data, which now has a marketcap (not price!) below $2.47. Lol.

I registered the following available domains:

$15 ibits.app
$ 6 ibits.cc
$15 interbits.app
$ 6 interbit.cc
$ 6 interbits.cc
$ 1 interbits.us

Also offered for sale are:

$5255 ibit.net
$ ??? ibits.us
$ 269 ibitsus.com
$ 429 interbit.us

The .app domain is the new TLD from Google which requires HTTPS. With the mobile generation moving towards mobile apps instead of the browser, I think a .app domain is sufficient as long as the .com is not going to be used by a competitor or website which confuses users into accessing the wrong site.

The interbits.com/net/org domains are in use by some Spanish technology provider, which would not be confused with our project. The interbit.com domain is controlled by an individual, so probably for sale at a high enough price. The already registered interbit.net/org domains are not in use.

The ibits.com domain is in use by a San Antonio, Texas ISP, which would not be confused with our project. The already registered ibits.net/org domains are not in use.

The ibit.com domain is in use by a Silicon valley logic circuit engineering sole proprietorship, which would not be confused with our project.

¹ And often with long droughts or many bad ideas interim.

P.S. I am laughing at the humorous name ideas I wrote down in 2015:

Coin name: Ghost.

Smallest unit: spooktoshi.

Lol. Creative.

Coin name: Vapor, Spoof, Poof, or Goxx
Smallest unit: itsgone

Coin name: Snuff
Smallest unit: upyours

Coin name: Crapola
Smallest unit: turds

Coin name: Viole(n)t
Smallest unit: huey's

Coin name: Infinitesimal, Pointed, or Pointless
Smallest unit: itsy-bitsy
