I think we’ve decided on the reverse for both the currency symbol and ticker symbol, with m∃ and n∃ for smaller units (to avoid decimal, fractional quantities) and quanta for the smallest (aka epsilon) unit analogous to Bitcoin’s satoshis.

Let’s augment and recap the best name ideas so far (mixing together both proposed dApps portal names and blockchain technology oriented names):

Hordered was eliminated from consideration because although it’s a clever interleaved portmanteau of ‘horde’ + ‘ordered’, and ‘horde’ means ‘herd’ which is a not the meaning of ‘hoard’, people will phonetically make an association to ‘hoarding’ which I initially thought would be positive, but someone reminded me that ‘hoarding’ is perceived to be selfish and associated with the enslavement by whales and miserly nobility.

I previously wrote:

Blocring is intended to have multiple meanings:

  • rings of blocks or rings within blockchains
  • bloc: a combination of parties sharing a common purpose
  • bloc: allocation of things regarded as a unit (e.g. blocks of transactions in a blockchain)
  • ring: a group of people drawn together due to a shared interest or goal

Sieve means to remove (unwanted items), distinguish and separate out, or check and sort carefully. So it implies unwanted content (and annoying ads) have been separated out so the user can decide whether to hide/discard them.

I previously wrote:

Hence I’ve eliminated Glean and Sieve from consideration because for ESL speakers such as the Filipinas in my household, they’re phonetically too proximate to (and thus connote) human names (e.g. Dean, Glenn and Steve) for those who didn’t know (and aren’t yet comfortable with) the abstruse definitions. Gleam can be confused with ‘gleam’. Neither capture the blockchain’s beneficial USP essence.

That complaint applied to employing the names as a dApps portal targeted to the non-technological masses. Whereas, Sieve is still a reasonable name idea for the technological blockchain name.

I previously wrote:

I added the name idea WoT. Web-of-Trust is a decentralized database of relative trust where each participant keeps their own record of for example: whose reliability, which websites, or which public keys to trust.

The decentralized ledger consensus algorithm I designed relies on a WoT.

WoT seems apropos, technological, modern, highly succinct, one syllable, very unique (achieves newness) compared to other coinmarketcap.com altcoin names and even sounds (/wät/) like ‘watt’ which is a metric of (typically electrical) power.

Added Affinity […], Manifold […] and Tensor, as an attempt to describe the multivariate, stochastic, degrees-of-freedom technological innovation of my design in that hordes of users comprising a WoT trust circle (grouping) can objectively (and independently!) route around malfeasance of adversaries. […Rails] also apply to a plurality of consensus shards for routing around the transaction volume scaling bottleneck of other blockchains. @johnnyflynn suggested Efinity, but it’s similar to extant DFINITY altcoin and I didn’t think the association to ‘infinity’ was particularly novel or apropos. The definition of ‘affinity’ is more apropos.

Realms is a solid choice for the dApps portal, although Graphitti (or Graffiti) is interesting albeit potentially perceived negatively by some. We’re now trying to select the technological name for the consensus ledger.

Refer to my novel consensus innovation for the applicability of technical points below.

NameIntended Beneficial Abstract Meaning
AffinityDecentralized free-market force of attraction to fork off from the malevolent faction of the stake.
Blocring
Co-ring
WoT
Decentralized WoT driven swarms fork off from the malevolent faction of the stake.
DualityDecentralized free-market driven non-captive (the railed) vs. captive (non-railed) UTXO dualism.
D(igi)verse
Dvrse
Diverse, digital, decentralized universe.
GraphittiPermissionless, decentralized writing to the consensus graph.
KloutValidating nodes’ (t)rails and reputation history in the WoT.
Lightning
Nodal
Rails
Validating nodes’ accelerated (i.e. 100 ms confirmation latency) non-captive shards.
ManifoldDecentralized free-market, multifurcated non-captive shards and swarms forking off from the malevolent faction of the stake.
Matrix
Tensor
Multifurcation contained within the matrix of shards maintaining (via the WoT) the invariant of objective, secure consensus.
RealmsIndividualized dominion over an activity or interest, thus implying decentralization.
SieveFilters out the malevolent faction of the stake.

My favorites so far are Affinity, Co-ring, Graphitti, Lightning, Manifold, Matrix, Nodal, Rails and Tensor. Feedback?

I suppose that for most people Affinity, Lightning, Nodal and Rails have the most direct, relevant meanings.

I really like Tensor for the technobabble and look, but the meaning is less relevant and understood. Affinity has 4 syllables and associates less technologically, more socially, although there’s an indirect technological interpretation in this context. Rails is one syllable, snappy to pronounce, memorable and in the abstract very apropos, but programmers might conflate it with Ruby on Rails. Lightning is an awesome name since blockchain scaling and instant confirmations is super important and relevant. Nodal is less like to be conflated with a non-technological association than Rails, may convey similar abstract meaning of interconnected pathways of the consensus graph, but implies more a freeform DAG than structured rails. Graphitti is unique, creative, and has an indirectly apt interpretation, but many people may perceive it negatively as rebellious and/or vandalism.

No cryptocurrency project is named Lightning. There’s Lightning Bitcoin and Lightning Networks.

Rails isn’t related to the much maligned RaiBlocks (hence renamed Nano), which is derived from Yap island’s decentralized currency Rai stones (c.f. also the Future of Money video).

I don’t prefer the portmanteaus which are a non-interleaved, juxtaposition of two words such as Blocring because there’s so many permutations of them that they’re not unique nor brandable (e.g. Blockstack, Dynaring, etc).

The Filipinas aren’t the target audience of the technological name. Bookish one prefers Lightning and the other likes Blocring. They don’t know the meaning of ‘affinity’, ‘blocring’ nor ‘tensor’. And directly associate ‘rails’ to train tracks (i.e. no abstraction). And preferred Matrix after I added it, because of the movie.
