Central Banks Around the world has different opinions about digital currencies ranging from outright dismissal of the notion to admitting that there is some value in the emerging asset class.
No matter how they look at it now the International Monetary Fund (IMF) believes that central banks may issue digital currencies in the future, well at least on a report they have recently released.
The paper reveals that several banks in different countries are considering implementing some form of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) with Bahamas, China, Eastern Caribbean Currency Union, Sweden and Ukraine in the verge of testing their systems.
In fact the country of Uruguay has reportedly launched a CBDC pilot program already according to the report of IMF.
Countries from emerging and developed countries seem to be interested with CBDC, the former wants to reduce banking costs and making banking services more available, the latter on the other hand seeking to provide an alternative to cash as the frequency of use dwindles.
