The sudden and severe Bitcoin price crash of Wednesday caused one of the world’s most well respected and popular exchanges based in the US to go offline.
It seems that the massive numbers of traders and investors who are trying to salvage their portfolios was too much to handle that it prompted the operator of the exchange to pull the plug on platform temporarily.
The downtrend started after reaching $13,880 price earlier that day and within 15 minutes the price of Bitcoin was at $11,853 level representing an intraday plunge of 15%.
Such a scenario is one of the major pain points of having to use centralized exchange as now one can be sure if the cause of the outage is system overload or the exchange operators trying to quell sentiments of panic sell-off a similar strategy employed by tradition markets.
