
Two of the major industry giants belonging to the transport industry and from the e-commerce industry have partnered together to simplify and promote payments that do not require cash.
Rakuten plans to integrate with services into Japan’s premier railway firm, the East Japan Company or JR East to provide electronic support for its Suica cards.
These cards are used to pay for products and services at retail stores inside train stations as well as to pay for the train fares.
If all goes well commuters will be able to charge their transit cards using the Rakuten Pay mobile app by 2020.
It has been reported that there is around 5,000 train stations around the country and around 50,000 buses in Japan and Rakuten Pay is used in more than 600,00 stores in the Japan.
This integration is good news for the cryptocurrency community in Japan as there is an indication that Rakuten is more likely to include cryptocurrencies in their payment platform with its soon to be release cryptocurrency exchange dubbed as Rakuten Wallet.
