
A planned hard fork for Ethereum Classic is set to occur at block number 8.75 million which is estimated to occur on September 15 which was later move two days later because the prior date as a Sunday.
This will allow involve parties such as exchanges and developers to be more likely to be present to discover and deal with any issues that might arise during the forking event.
It must be noted that due to the fact that the hard fork is several months away the estimated block number for which the hard for is set to occur is an imperfect estimate but efforts are being made to ensure that halving will occur at the said set date.
The upcoming hard fork has two main aim first, is to develop high-quality blockchain software that preserves the security of the network; second consider the opinions and concerns of the community.
It can be remembered that Ethereum Classic is a fork of the original Ethereum which was born out of a major hack that exploited the original Ethereum security flaws.
