In a forum that would have typically been a learning opportunity for representatives from the Securities and Exchange Commission representatives tuned out to be a demonstration show of how much the agency’s stuff already knew about the nascent industry.
It seems that SEC has been paying close attention to the crypto world and apparently has a deeper understanding than some are willing to give them credit for.
One of the panelist during the forum, Joshua Ashley Klayman, managing member of Klayman LLC, a boutique law firm, observed that the SEC participants were seemingly comfortable with some of the more technical aspects and the terminologies.
Terms such as airdrops, atomic swaps and smart contracts seem not to bother the SEC representatives that were in attendance even when they admit low level of understanding of some topics of the forum they sounded more informed about crypto compared from before.
While this might be a closer step for SEC to finally be able to provide regulatory clarity in the space this does not necessary change the way they will approach cryptocurrencies and securities law, regulation does not happen overnight and many pundits believe that there is still a long way to go before SEC can provide this.
