The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) has successfully tested instant cross-border transfers in in Asia.
The trial performed instant cross-border settlements between 17 banks located from different parts of the world, taking as long as 25 seconds, with the quickest taking 13 seconds.
The banks were located in Australia, China, Canada, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Singapore and Thailand.
The company's head of banking Harry Newman said: “SWIFT envisages that cross-border payments will become as convenient as domestic transactions, and the successful testing across multiple corridors between Europe and North America to Asia Pacific confirms the important role that Global Payment Innovation (GPI) Instant will play in making that bold vision a reality.”
