The long-time Bitcoin Core contributor Michael Ford who often goes by the handle of fanquake has been named as the newest maintainer of the Bitcoin Core open source code.
He will be joiningother current Bitcoin Core maintainers- Wladimir van Der Laan, Jonas Schnello, Marco Falke, and Samuel Dobson who are primarily tasked to do the janitorial work that keeps the most popular version of the bitcoin node software organized.
The decision was made during the last CoreDev meeting where the most active Bitcoin Core contributors are invited and chat face-to-face and discuss issues that revolve around the project.
In being named as the one of the Bitcoin Core code maintainer his key will be added to the trusted keys list file on GitHub giving him the ability to merge in changes that have been finalized into the codebase.
The maintainers role is often confused with being the leaders of the project which is hardly the case, they do play a vital role in the project as they help to guide the review process of new code as well merging it into the core codebase.
