Utah Now Utilizes Blockchain Voting


Utah is now the third County in America to utilized blockchain technology to improve its elections process as it enables residents to vote using their mobile phone in their municipal primary election.


The Utah County will be the third American jurisdiction to allow blockchain-powered electronic voting in the country after West Virginia and Colorado.


This initiative was made possible through the collaboration between the Utah County Election Division, Voatz (a mobile elections services provider), Tusk Philanthropies and the National Cybersecurity Center.


The pilot started last June 28 and will continue onwards until Election Day, August 12; this will benefit the electorate who are active-duty military, their eligible depends and overseas voters.


Interestingly Voatz is backed by Medici Ventures which led a $7 million funding found for the platform, Medici Ventures is a subsidiary of Overstock.
