The Chinese arm of the American supermarket giant has recently partnered with Vechain, PwC and others on a project that seeks to increase food safety on its products.
Dubbed as the new Walmart China Blockchain Traceability Platform, it already boast 23 product lines tested and listed with another 100 planned by the end of the year.
According to a press release by the company the products included in the platforms comes from 10 product categories including fresh meat, rich, mushrooms, cooking oil and more.
It hopes that by the end of the year fresh meat products will be included in the tracking platform as it accounts for 50 percent of its total sales in that category.
Strategy and innovations lead at PwC Mainland China and Hong Kong, Elton Young, states that Walmart’s Blockchain Traceability System will be an excellent example of blockchain technology applied in the retail industry, helping improve food safety and quality management and providing a strong guarantee of trust.
