What will the world be like in the year 2050? Will we still be around even? Will we have finished that station on the moon? Will we even have returned to the moon by then, or would we have skipped that station and travel straight to the Red Planet?

Even if these aren't exactly the questions answered on Kaspesky's website dedicated to the year 2050, I've nevertheless been lost there for quite some time when I discovered it. You all know Kaspersky Lab from their world famous antivirus protection and internet security software. This is not about their software though; I've heard a lot of good and bad things about it, but have never used it myself and am therefore not qualified to give any opinion on that.
This post is mainly to introduce to you their brilliant website Earth 2050. This website is gorgeous; it consists of a 3D wire-frame model of Earth, with scattered throughout the planet's surface, bright clickable hotspots that lead you to predictions made by a scientist, futurologist, artist or other notable person from that city or place. Part of their core business has to do with making predictions about future security risks; as a programmer of security software I guess part of the game is trying to stay one step ahead of not only the competition, but the hackers and other cyber-criminals too, and that may well be where part of the inspiration for this project came from.
In fact, they have gathered predictions and future visions for the years 2030, 2040 and 2050, so visitors can go on a virtual trip to the future, jumping a decade at a time. I haven't gone through all of them yet, but some of the predictions are quite surprising, while others are to be expected, like the one about self-driving cars. In 2050 mobile phones will be out of fashion and will most likely be replaced by augmented reality devices. Virtual reality will have become the main method of consuming media as well as the main vehicle for education and leisure alike. Well known theoretical physicist, futurist, and popularizer of science, Michio Kaku goes as far as to predict that in 2050 the "brain net" will have arrived. Neurosciences and computer technology will have developed to the point where we can send memories and emotions across the internet, whatever the internet will look like then. Maybe with next gen cryptocurrencies and publicly shared quantum-blockchains running the virtual web 6.0?
Also many artists try to convey this future vision through beautiful concept art, to create, in their own words, ""a visual time-machine... In any case, there's tons of interesting stuff to discover here, and if you're a bit of a dreamer like myself, I highly recommend you give the site a try right here.
