Stage 6 of the 2018 Vuelta a Espana was a 156km rolling ride from Huercal Overa north to Jan Javier with French rider Nacer Bouhanni winning the stage for his team Cofidis. Bouhanni was able to edge out Danny van Poppel of LottoNL-Jumbo, with Elia Viviani of Quick-Step Floors taking third.
The start of the stage was easy with riders still recovering from the previous stages king of the mountains leader Luis Angel Maté of Cofidis, joined Jorge Cubero of Burgos-BH and Richie Porte of BMC to make a three man break early in the stage. The group quickly established a lead with Mate collecting full points as the stage continued. The group was joined by two further riders as their lead grew to four minutes with the group continuing their break ahead of the main peloton until finally being caught in the final 28km of the stage.
As the peloton continued, a number of riders went down due to a high speed crash within the final 25km. With Elia Viviani of Quick-Step Floors up the front again, it looked like he could take a second stage victory in this years tour, but the chaotic bunch sprint at the final stages saw Nacer Bouhanni take the sprint finish.
