In New Zealand there is this unique fruit called Feijoa. We used to have two Feijoa trees at our backyard when I was young, and every autumn we would have Feijoas covering our lawn. However, since moving to Australia, I haven't had a Feijoa for a long time. So the first thing that we did when we found a supermarket on our Wellington trip was to buy a bag of Feijoas.
Feijoas are little green egg-shaped fruit that is about the size of a kiwifruit.
When you cut it open, you can see the inside is jelly like. The colour is slightly yellowish. If it looks overly brown that means that the fruit is overripe and possibly damaged, so it's probably best to throw those away.
To eat it, simply use a spoon to scope up the jelly part. Sometimes spoons may be provided if you buy pre-packaged ones. It mostly tastes sweet and fresh, although sometimes it may be a bit sour, but the perfectly ripen ones are certainly very delicious.
