Today I decided to show the process of drawing a picture for the #designacharacter contest. I decided to draw two characters and chose the third style - masterpieces of inimitable Klimt. For my picture I used the famous paintings of Klimt - "The Kiss", "The Tree of Life" and "Abstraction".Painted with oil paints on canvas. As we know, Klimt used gold leaf in his works . Unfortunately, this luxury is not permissible to me, so I used gold acrylic paint.
I really like the picture "The Kiss" for its charming tenderness, love and expression. My picture is the interpretation of this Klimt's masterpiece. I pictured two embracing lovers under the veil of a bright blanket. The color scale of the blanket is a reference to the colorful works of the maestro.
I used a small drawing size - 20 х 30 cm, because of this I was faced with the complexity of drawing the small details in the process.
That's what I got as a result.
Now I will show a few steps of my work.
First I drew the contours with a pencil.
Began to paint from the background. I wanted to bring gold to the picture and decided to make the background dark, but not completely gloomy. I mixed the brown paint, ocher, white and applied them to the canvas with obvious square brushstrokes. I used a large, flat synthetic brush. As we know, Klimt liked to fill his paintings with geometry, so my square brushstrokes represent a reference to his works.
Painted a colorful blanket in bright colors. Color design was born in my imagination from viewing the Klimt's picture "Abstraction".
With golden acrylic paint I painted the ornate branches of a tree behind lovers. At this step, I was inspired by the Klimt's picture "The Tree of Life". Then I painted the bright patterns on the blanket.
Painted the girl's face in detail. Tried to express on her face a happy dreamy look, full of pacification. Finished the details of the blanket patterns.
When the first layer of gold paint dried - I painted with ''gold'' the branches of the tree again. Drew the face of a young man. Drawing the little details on damp paint is very difficult, so at this step I left the picture a little dry until the next session.
I added small details to the picture, made the colors more bright and dense.
The picture is ready.
