🐶 Adopt A Human

We Didn't Domesticate Dogs. They Domesticated Us.

Dog Woody

Under normal circumstances ads run for you to adopt a dog or a cat, what has made this year unique is I was adopted by my neighbours 4 year old Pitty. My first encounter with Pit Bull Terriers up close and personal.

This journey started on 14th September 2014, why I remember that date is I loved Iris the Pitty mom over the wall, she was a beautiful soft little girl, friendly to both my dogs at the time. Iris had 8 pups and when most had left Iris taught the two young males to climb our wall to go exploring together, perhaps two gardens are better than one.

Dog Iris

We kept our dogs indoors when she arrived with puppies in-tow only letting them out when we knew the coast was clear, Iris and brother were no longer around at the end of 2015. Leaving Woody on his own, visiting stopped he appeared settled in his home with his family.

Dog 2015

During 2016 our neighbours decided to get another mix-breed pup, all went well till beginning of this year, when Woody decided to start visiting once again, with us not having dogs in the home we did not worry and let him come and go.

Around mid-year Woody visited more often, the puppy was not able to clear the wall which is six foot high, Woody left his house after eight every morning, (when everyone had left for school/work) to return home around six in the evening, this carried on for quiet some time.

Middle of August we had some electrical storms pass over he decided to stay with us for two days straight, extremely traumatized by the thunder, I contacted my neighbour to let them know he was safe, not to worry he would return once the storms had cleared, and he did.

What did become evident was his reluctance to go at the end of each day, when my brother passed away, my neighbours mother also passed away, Woody was splitting his time between both homes, then suddenly during that week decided to stay three days, our neighbour decided to come over and literally carried him back home.

During November Woody stayed, continuously in contact with the owner I had let them know I was feeding him and he was visiting their home on odd occasions but returning quite quickly after visits next door, just to say hello to the children.

During this last week a decision had to be made, we got together to discuss the future of this loving little pitty, Woody decided which side of the fence he wishes to live, humans are happy with the family next door wishing to get another puppy, anything but a Pit Bull Terrier which they found hard to contain.

Woody is no longer jumping the wall to go home, this four year old adopted me, my sons accuse me of being a dog-whisperer, alas all credit to Woody who sniffed out who to adopt, feeling welcome, very much at home and loved. I do not think he is thorough bred, may have some Staffordshire Bull Terrier in him as well, having had a Staffie years ago we will do fine together.

Word of caution, this is not the full story, I would not wish to upset anyone, never take a breed of dog you are unable to control, take into consideration young children around the home. Furry friends in a family can be the most wonderful experience in ones life, dogs need love and attention. No Santa did not drop him off, still one of the best gifts to receive of that I have no doubt.

Nothing could be better than love, mutual respect, a good home with food, we have much to be happy about, a dog in my life again perhaps some companionship I missed sorely, now to introduce Woody to my late brothers dog Sarge who we walk every week in the park or on the beach (also adopted) to become four legged friends to run each other ragged.
