Understanding the Cost of Animal Abuse (Dtube Video)

Hello Everyone,

I am Wayne Davies and I am a Vegan Economist. My page Spectrum Economics focuses on economic issues, economic theories, and the application of economics to the real world. Some of my topics are reasonably main stream with close to textbook explanation of concepts. The more mainstream topics are important to set the stage for the application of economics.

The important focus of my page is to cover more controversial topics relating to economics and the how economics has been and is being used to manipulate the people. Finding a start point to this journey has been difficult. I have wanted to play a more active role in exposing the role of economics for a long time but never really managed to find a way to break out and do it. For me the journey started when I became vegan back in May 2016.

You may ask how becoming vegan and becoming an outspoken economist are related. Understanding one form of exploitation (exploitation of animals) helped me understand the exploitation of humans and give me energy to do something more. The big difference with the exploitation of animals is that I could make an immediate impact by simply not contributing to the cruelty. I can avoid eating meat and dairy as well avoid supporting industries that exploit animals in other ways such as for entertainment or clothing.

This now brings me to the video here on Dtube. I have shared this video on YouTube and I have posted previously on it as well. The post can be found at: @spectrumecons/understanding-the-cost-of-animal-abuse. This video briefly explains my story to becoming vegan and some of the things I have learned and experienced on the way. I focus on the five areas highlighted by the documentary ‘Earthlings’, link to trailer will be provided in the comments. This documentary is a must watch for everyone. It really opened my eyes to the extent that animals are abused in the world.

The five areas are as follows:

  • Pets
  • Entertainment
  • Clothing
  • Food
  • Animal testing

We can opt out of supporting cruelty in all these areas. Not only can being vegan help end animal cruelty it can help make us healthier people. The health risks of eating meat and dairy are proving to be quite significant as evidence reveals links to cancer and other diseases. I personally feel that becoming vegan has made me more enlightened and more willing to challenge the world in other areas of exploitation as well. I feel it has a positive spill over effect for me.

I will continue on my journey by explaining how some of the cruelty in the world can be explained with use of economics. I will do this with my videos, with my Steemit posts, and also with the book I am currently working on. The book currently has the working title ‘Vegan Economics’ and is expected to be complete in early 2018. I hope you enjoy this video, I will have many more to come.
