The Vermeer Windmill is the tallest working Dutch windmill in North America and was first assembled in Holland, then taken apart, and reassembled in Pella in 2002.
It is an icon of the Dutch town, but also provides freshly ground flour for the towns bakeries and restaurants.
It is set up to resemble a traditional 1850s Dutch grain mill. One floor of the mill originally housed the miller and his family. I wonder how covered in flour dust everything in their home was. Cleaning must have been a constant battle!
I think I may have posted some of these exterior shots before, but I came across these interior shots and wanted to post them.
At the top you can step out next to the spinning blades (slightly terrifying) and look out over the rooftops of the town.
