In the car park where the Wednesday second hand market is held, workmen are setting up tents and decorations in preparation for the celebration of St. John, the Baptist – also the local saint. The Wednesday market is therefore put on hold for the next couple of weeks.
San Juan is one of the festivals – of which there are many, in Banelmadena. On the night of San Juan, there will be barbecues, bonfires, fireworks, food and drinks along the beaches. And this stays on till quite late. Some people stayed till the wee morning hours.
This year the celebration starts on the 24th of June. It will go on for a week. There will also be a fair where the second hand market is. The fair will go on for a week. So, the San Juan celebration is quite a big event.
