In the land between sleep and waking the half-creatures wait, wearing the faces of men I once knew, tempting me with their stories.
I cannot stay.
From their eyes patter the tears of the early morning rain. And when they call, their voices sound the scream of my alarm.

My own fiftywords story for the theme "dreams and nightmares".
Thanks to everyone for bringing their stories over the last few days! I know some of you have said today that you are still writing, so I'll leave you another couple of days with this theme before I round up. But feel free to add your stories in the #fiftywords tag on this or any theme and as inspiration finds you!
I've also asked a few people how often they would like me to set up a new theme. I'm edging towards twice a week, one for Monday - Thursday and another starting on Friday for the week-end. The idea is to give people a little more time to work on their ideas and hone their writing. More time? More frequent? Let me know what you think!
If you would like to join in, particularly if you're new to the platform, or recently returned, and looking for somewhere to start, please do! Just post your story with the "fiftywords" tag. You can follow the theme or simply take your inspiration where you find it. The only unbreakable(!) rule is to keep it to fifty words - ideally fifty on the nose - and also try and produce a complete and contained scene, moment, or story. In a future post I'll try and put some thoughts together as to what I think makes a good fiftywords story. But everyone will have their own ideas and all are welcome!
