27 April 2018. Friday.
After 3 weeks of International Business Strategy classes, we were finally done with our 2nd module here! Time to celebrate with another short trip, this time out of Finland to another country called Estonia! 😄
If you're not geographically familiar with Europe (just like me), Estonia is a country in Northern Europe and borders the Baltic Sea and Gulf of Finland. The capital, Tallinn, is known for its preserved Old Town, museums and the 314m-high Tallinn TV Tower, which has an observation deck. It's actually just a short ferry ride away from Helsinki as you can see from this map:
So we decided to take a weekend trip before the start of our next module to Estonia! But first, since our campus is in Mikkeli we had to once again make the 3 hour trip out to Helsinki. We bought some bus tickets from Onnibus again since it was pretty affordable and convenient. If you're ever in Finland and looking for cheaper alternatives to the VR train to travel across Finland I'd recommend trying out Onnibus!
3 hours later, we arrived in a very sunny Helsinki!
We were kinda hungry so we decided to stop by Singapore Hot Wok again for some char kway teow!
After our yummy meal we started heading to our hotel since we were quite a walk away from the city centre. It's okay though since it gave us the chance to explore different parts of Helsinki.
It was pretty sunny but in the shady areas it was actually kinda cold!
After about 20 min or so we made it to the hotel! Since we previously stayed at Clarion Hotel near the Helsinki Airport, we decided to try the branch in Helsinki itself. This branch was located near the port of Helsinki, which was where the ferries would depart from so it was pretty convenient for us to go to Estonia.
Clarion hotel really doesn't disappoint! The interior is nice and comfortable, and the rooms are great too! 😌
We got a regular room with twin beds and it was so nice and cozy. 😌 The view wasn't great but it's okay for a cheaper room.
The hotel also had a public outdoor hot tub/onsen and the usual facilities like a gym. They also had a sauna since it's a tradition in Finland.
After exploring the hotel, we walked around Helsinki a bit more and got some dinner.
For dinner we consulted Google on cheap eats and found a burrito place called Suburritos! After watching We Bare Bears I always wanted to try a burrito myself. 😄
It was a cute little restaurant and the waiter who served us was so friendly and nice! We ordered a burrito to share and it turned out to be pretty filling for me since it was stuffed with rice and beans and all kinds of stuff. I'd recommend the chicken burrito though, since the beef was pretty tough.
After dinner, we walked around a bit more before heading back. By the time we got back it was nearly midnight and my feet were aching! 😫 Needless to say we had a very restful sleep that night. 😴
Tune in to the next post where we board the ferry to Estonia!
