Cafe Once Upon a Time, West Ryde @ Sydney Australia

Once Upon a Time? It definitely sounds like some bed time story theme doesn't it? You're not wrong about that if that was what came across your thoughts!

This cafe is filled with decorations which relates to stories such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, Beauty and the Beast and so on. Probably many stories which we don't know about too.

How do we know this? There are sewing machines, sewing machine tables, carriage wheels, pots and pans and many other antique looking items displayed throughout the premises. It's actually really cool and interesting to look at.

All these different pictures and frames up on the wall are also pretty interesting. We're not artistic nor are we into history so we aren't able to tell if these have stories behind them.

Old machineries like the type writer, the telephone, scale and kettles. With the wooden aesthetics and layout, we pictured the year 1800s... or close to that.

Now for the food! Breakfast, lunch or just there for brunch - Once Upon a Time serves a good variety of food from your usual breakfast staples, pancakes, omelettes, burgers, burritos and salads. It did take us a while to decide on what to order as everything on the menu looked delicious.

Acai Bowl (Fresh seasonal fruit, shredded coconut and granola)

A very healthy yet refreshing bowl of goodness. Best energy fuel in the morning.

Vege Pita Sandwich with extra hash brown on the side (Roasted capsicum, sundried tomato, grilled mushroom, cucumber, grilled zucchini, caramelised onion, waitrose baby chicory, fetta cheese & aioli)

Morning Maker Pancakes (with blueberry compote, mascarpone, banana, mango, orange, vanilla ice cream with maple syrup)

Dessert for breakfast? Why not!?

Belgian Breakfast (poached eggs, grilled tomato, bacon, avocado, roasted pumpkim, ricotta cheese, pomagranate, sourdough breadcrumbs and za-atar on Belgian waffle)

Highly recommend the Belgian Breakfast. The pumpkin on the waffle was the best thing invented!

Duck breast Burrito

Oz Angus Beef Burger

Japanese Sando (Japanese style sandwich w/ karage beef)

The food were aesthetically pleasing to look at... and the taste will not fail you. Its hard to come across a cafe with a group where not a single person orders the same item from the menu as there is such a good variety. This place is actually a winner as there wasn't a dish where we were unhappy with.

The service was fairly quick - especially when it comes to serving the drinks. We visited on a weekend which resulted in a really busy restaurant. The wait was not too bad though. Roughly 15 minutes for a table for 6 people. You could probably grab a table quicker if you had less people.

Staff were friendly despite it being a really busy day for them. We dined in after 1:30PM in the afternoon which was towards the end of the restaurant's peak hour and we're sure the waiters and waitresses would have been pretty exhausted by the time we walked in.

For the 6 of us, it cost around $150AUD and that is for 7 meals and 6 drinks. Thinking back now, it was worth every dollar seeing how much effort was put into food decoration, cafe atmosphere and friendly and quick staff service.

Will we be returning? That's a big tick from us ✓
