Team Malaysia | Zord's Mini Gathering, Korean BBQ Cravings

Finally, a mini get together

My Korean BBQ Cravings

A week ago, I started having this Korean BBQ Craving for their marinated pork meat. Mainly because I work in a Korean company and I just read up @kaerpediem's post about salted fish skin and the delicious food she just had for lunch. Though not Korean food but it got me salivating for some well marinated meat and you know how much pork means to me. In her post, I also commented and we ended up saying that we should have a food meetup soon. It has been a while since a few #teammalaysia members gather for food so I guess it's about time to get one mini meetup up and running. My thoughts, a simple lunch, good company, and good food.

It was also a mini personal celebration for me after finishing my movie production which had almost squeezed the life out of me from working almost 24 hours straight a day. Messed up with my bio clock, sleeping at 4 to 5 am every day. I finally had the time to catch up with some good friends over this meal and I'm glad I did.

Om Nom Nom Unlimited Buffet

The shop is called Don Dwae Ji Sam Gyeob Sal, which I can never remember. The name is too long and the shop entrance itself isn't that appealing. What made me come here again was the price of the unlimited buffet and decent quality of side dishes and meat. The honey glazed peanut is still my favourite. I know @joannewong can agree. This is my second time here. First time being a Steemit meetup as well during election day this year with a bunch of Steemians.

It was funny when @elizacheng called to secure a booking for us at 1pm because that was when the shop was open. We were told to come later at 1.30pm because they needed to open shop and prepare the food. So @elizacheng and I was wondering.... why don't you just change your opening time to 1.30pm instead.

But anyhooo, the prices were RM27.00 which is USD6.50. It is SUPER CHEAP considering you can have unlimited refills of marinated pork, pork belly, pork loin, and side dishes. Their variety of side dishes were also more than what you can usually get from a Korean shop. They have some good homemade kimchi, stir-fried potato, sausages, kimchi cucumber, tofu, Korean style hard boiled egg, seasoned radish, salted cabbage, peanut (my favourite) and kimchi pancake. That's a whole lot to choose from and enjoy.

The 'not so much of a downside' of things is that the drinks are not included in the RM27.00 but that is fine. The drinks are cheap depending on what you order but it's a decent price.

Korean Side Dishes that occupies 70% of your tablespace

I LOVE Korean side dishes and meat. Their side dishes as you can see from the photo above will ALWAYS occupy at least 70% of your table space having you squeeze your elbows towards your hips to eat. But it's all good, the BBQ does give a sense of intimacy when you're cooking for your friends. The thing about 'sharing food concept' is enjoyable, especially with good company.

The early bunch can't wait to get the BBQ-ing started

Finally getting to meet with @kimzwarch who is a season Steemians and founder of #archisteem. That last I met him was during our #teammalaysia Chinese New Year event and that was only for a short while because I got to the party pretty late. @elizacheng and I were already craving for Korean BBQ meat like a few weeks ago and this was a perfect choice. Cheap and tasty fat slices of meat. Hmmm...~

Look at that raw meat. We had two courses to choose from. Course A which consists of Pork Loin and Pork shoulder or course B which is the marinated pork u see right up in the photo. Being foodies, we negotiated with the waitress and she allowed us to mix the meat course A and B by just adding RM2 to the set price. What's RM2 when your cravings are satisfied ey?

favourite honey glazed peanut

Where oh where have you gone?

Amidst the BBQ-ing, @kchitrah called and told me she was lost in traffic and in finding the place. I immediately tried to direct her to the location having not known the place well myself. Haha, it was a mess. She was literally turning round and round the area and I'm sorry! But it was glad that you finally arrived. It has been a while since we met up during one of @maverickfoo's event.

And while we were waiting for @kchitrah and @khimgoh to arrive, the meat was ready to eat.

Look at the meat in all its glory!~

A little later, @khimgoh came after having a heavy breakfast so she didn't order anything but just drinks. It was still nice of her to come for a catchup because it has been weeks since I last talked to her. I guess we've both been busy with everything!~

Sawadikap... no wait, it's xin chao

Having a little time left to spare, we head over to a cafe opposite our shop for a coffee break and to enjoy the mooncake that @kimzwarch brought for us. Thank you @kimzwarch! Sometimes I wonder how we Malaysians have that extra space for food and more food after every meal. @jaynie said I have worms in my tummy. I wished I do because then I would be thinner than I am now. Which seems to be a problem because I've been growing fatter ever since.

The Vietnamese Cafe

I've been craving for the Vietnamese Drip Coffee ever since my Vietnamese colleague made them for me. The signboard says all I wanted to hear, 'Viet Coffee'.

So what you do is wait when the coffee arrives. You're supposed to let the coffee powder slowly drip into your cup. The taste would be pretty strong and if you're a coffee drinker that loves a strong saturated taste of your beans, then you will definitely love this. I usually like mine iced and with condensed milk. Not too much of the milk because I still like my coffee with a bitter aftertaste. Iced Viet Coffee is perfect for any day.

when you know its ready to drink

Thank you @kimzwarch for the mooncake

Already Booked Dinner

A short while later, we all had to go home because we had plans and I have already booked my dinner delivery to be picked up at 6pm. So I had to rush home before the delivery arrives. But all in all, I'm glad that this meetup happened because I've missed every one of them. Because of our daily busyness and life itself, we haven't been meeting up as frequent as last time.

Don't worry @kaerpediem and the rest who couldn't make it this time. I will definitely plan another Zord mini meetup again. Maybe in a few week's time. Here's a parting photo of us.
