Freewrite Prompt: Freedom of Personal Power

When I think of this prompt, the first thing that came to my mind was "No, Mummy.... Noooooo..... ", hahaha!

Okay, that's not a no to this prompt but one of the first few things my son learnt to say. My friend who is having a 1-year-old child was having this conversation with me that her girl seemed to be saying no a lot. She was wondering if she used too many negative words in her parenting and made her child exposed to no. I laughed and I asked her, "No is a good word, isn't it?"

To me, it is. Being able to say no is powerful. It's quite amazing how young children may say no first before they say yes as they develop their will. Sometimes they know why they are saying it, sometimes they may just like the sound of it. It makes me think that they are learning of their power but we adults may suppress that. Being able to say no shows a person does know what he or she wants or can or cannot cope with. It is healthy. It shows we are powerful to reject things or even people that can be toxic to us. Of course, we may also "miuse" this power of saying no to good things too.

Gandhi himself said (if I am not mistaken) :

True freedom is when we are free to make mistakes.

Power is always to be tested when it is in a person. True power of course comes with responsibility. If it's a mistake, it comes with the power and responsibilities to clean up the mess. True power is not dominance or dictatorship, in fact that is the portrayal of the very opposite of power but disempowerment and insecurities.

Since it is personal power we are talking about here, it surely looks different from one to another. In our current world, we look free and yet sometimes we can be bound. I took years to learn about being powerful and free, yet I'm still learning. To one, freedom and power may look like breaking free from a certain sickness. To another, it may be breaking free from a hurt or trauma, receiving restorations. To some, it may be a breakthrough from cycles of insecurities or negative thoughts. There also can be freedom from financial lack and even emotional lack.

Whatever it is, I bless you. There will be a day we can ride above the waves, not succumbed by it that no matter how the situation is, we hold on to our freedom of personal power, not giving it away to the people or situation, no longer call ourselves victims, but to have power over all these. We will choose how to respond to it, no matter what circumstances may throw at us.

We celebrate our victory when we can do that but when we didn't do it, our personal power includes also the ability and power to forgive ourselves and to tell ourselves to try again. God enables us through His grace!

Freewrite is a prompt writing initiated by @mariannewest and @improv to write a free-flow post without correcting or editing. I checked out her post to really get what it is before I jumped on the bandwagon. Basically, there is no right or wrong, just let the mind and fingers do their work, to find our creative self and let it come out of us.
