This is the freewrite challenge. I am using @mariannewest’s #freewrite prompt to write this piece (@mariannewest/day-543-5-minute-freewrite-tuesday-prompt-born)
Today’s prompt is:
born
I am continuing a story I began last week (this is part eight). You can find parts one and two and three and four and five and six and seven and eight if you are interested

"Hey Nessa!" I said, my voice sounded false. "What's up?"
"Fuck off," Vanessa said, putting my usual pint down in front of me, and walking off to the otherside of the bar.
I wondered what I had done. When was the last time I saw her? Last night...? Ah, yes... now it was coming back to me. I should have seen her last night, but didn't. Chip wanted to see me, and I blew her out at the last minute.
I was about to call her over, but heard the door of the bar swing open. I looked over my shoulder. The man who had been doing such a bad job of following me was standing in the doorway, he was looking at me, and did a bad job of acting like he wasn't. He pretended to look around the bar, like he was searching for a friend and then tried to casually walk to the bar. Vanessa came up to him and gave him a nice warm smile.
"How can I help you, sir?" she said, her eyes sparkling. The man ordered half a lager and then pretended not to notice I was staring at him.
"I wasn't born yesterday," I said.
"What? I'm sorry, sir were you talking to me?"

As usual I started with the freewrite prompt and used themostdangerouswritingapp.com to write the first five minutes (and then popped it into google docs to check for errors and tidy it up a bit):

I had a comment left on one of my freewrites and I have to say, it made my day!
“Hey I got the book and want to tell you how much I enjoyed your story! Loved the twist at the end… you somehow nearly always manage to produce an unexpected twist... . Love the care you take with your characters, intertwining them.” @owasco

Voices In The Darkness is now ALSO available as a paperback!
If you want a taster of what is in the book, the video below shows me reading the first 900 words, or so, of my story, The Tell-Tale Dead
