This is the freewrite challenge. I am using @mariannewest’s #freewrite prompt to write this piece (@mariannewest/day-472-5-minute-freewrite-monday-prompt-sale) to write this tale.
Today’s prompt is:
Sale
Becky had promised Ian that she wouldn't spend any more of the money they had set aside for the wedding. Not without consulting him, anyway. It was a promise she intended to keep.
However… as she looked through the brightly lit window at all the items on display, the sign above announcing the “One Day Super Sale!”, she wondered, would he really be upset if she broke that promise... just one more time?
He had gotten quite cross last time.
But the inflatable flamingos were just perfect for the idea that she had had for the top table for their wedding. He had pointed out, again, that she had changed her mind several times about what theme she wanted, and that their small house was becoming rather full of unwanted and redundant items, whilst their bank account was becoming rather empty of useful currency.
She toyed with the idea of phoning him, explaining about the One Day Super Sale, and the rather fetching glittery unicorns they had on offer JUST FOR ONE DAY ONLY, and how perfect they would look on top of the wedding cake.
And then she thought, "Na, fuck it. He won't mind."
And in she trotted, credit card already in hand.
…
As usual I started with the freewrite prompt and used themostdangerouswritingapp.com to write the first five minutes (and then popped it into google docs to check for errors and tidy it up a bit):
