Game Review: Rayman Legends Definitive Edition - Complete to the Switch

ray.png

In 2013 Rayman Legends released on PlayStation 3, Vita, Xbox 360 and the Wii U and later the game appeared for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Logical, because the game was immediately unprecedented popular. Now the final version is released for the Nintendo Switch. Read what this extra offers in the Rayman Legends Definitive Edition review!

Rayman Legends appears the first game about Rayman for the Nintendo Switch. And after the release of the first Rabbids game, it could not have been a better Ubisoft title to get to Nintendo's console. Certainly not for four decades. The Definitive Edition subtitle occurs as if many features have been added to the game, but unfortunately this is not entirely true.

All versions combined

Originally referred to as Wii Your exclusive game does not know much news, but many recurring features from previous versions. This version of the game could therefore be better described as a complete edition. Obviously there are the countless levels in which you came to a tent with Rayman, Globoxx, Murphy and the Teens. There, you paint your painting after painting to collect Lums in the underlying world and liberate abductions.

The game is, as we used to be all versions, bomby platform action! In addition to the platform action all around, you get all the extras that the previous Rayman Legends versions knew. You have all outifts and characters like Mario Rayman and Assassin's Creed Rayman, the free play Raman Origins and the Kung Foot mode.

And it's cool that you can play this all now (again), just like at the Vita at the time. The levels lend themselves perfectly to the Switch's handheld function, as they last only a few minutes. So you play easily between a level when you're on the train. The only thing that matters to this is the length of loading times that this Defintive Edition brings with you.

From the Wii U version, this edition of Rayman Legends has got the touchscreen and motion control. These are the parts you're working with Murphy to get rid of obstacles for the other characters or enemies to kill the kittens. In normal mode, you control Murphy with the Joy Con controller, but in this version there is also a "new" mode that returns the features of the mentioned Wii U version.

Some new elements

This mode is called Murphy's Touch and completely runs around the many Murphy levels from the game. Here you manage Murphy while the computer takes over Rayman and the others. It's up to you to clear up the enemies and remove all obstacles so that the computer player can bring a level to a good end. Multiplayer is not in this mode, at least not with touchscreen and motion control.

Locally you can play together, but just with the buttons. This is very unfortunate, because with the Vita version it was possible to play together with multiple handhelds and to control Murphy by touch. An item that should not have been with this Switch version.

Certainly because the game supports multiple consoles via local Wi-Fi in the new Kung Foot Tournament mode. In previous versions you could already play football with two players, but in this mode you can play up to eight players. The mini-game was already fun in previous versions, but can now turn a friends night into a hilarious battle with all of them!

Audiovisually timeless

Although there are some missions in Rayman Legends Definitive Edition, this is a great game. This is mainly due to the audiovisual side of the game. Ubisoft already had a first-edition clopper in 2013 and later with the same game in a polished jacket. That jacket has now been exchanged for another newer jacket and audiovisual, the game is really spotless!

The game feels anything but dated with its crisp graphics and fantastic soundtrack. The colors in this version are brighter and the degree of detail, as in previous versions, is huge in the eye. The control of this Switch version has improved compared to the other versions, but Ubisoft also had a great deal in this area. So there was little work needed to make the game feel good.

You might therefore think that this final version of Rayman Legends is a bit strange in terms of improvements, but that's not true. The game was already quite complete in the previous versions and is now absolutely no less than that.

Rayman Legends Definitive Edition Review - Essential to the Switch

If you Rayman Legends Definitive Edition compares with the other versions, there is not much news, but it makes the game any less. You get forty euros a great game that pours out the extras and free-to-play elements and one that looks graphically great too.

In addition, the game lends itself perfectly to the Switch, although there is also a failure to notice. The lack of touchscreen control during the multiplayer is really a missile that could easily be added. But despite this, it's a game that can not really miss your Switch collection if you already have it or not!

The plus and the drawbacks

✔ Audiovisually timeless
✔ Contains almost all elements from previous versions
✔ Exclusive Tournament Mode
✔ Up to eight players (Tournament)
✔ Ideal for on the road
✖ No touchscreen operation during multiplayer
