Reasons you should buy a PS4

Today, we'll be looking at 6 reasons why you should buy a PS4 Pro console. This article will be followed in the coming days by all the reasons why you shouldn't buy a PS4 Pro - its up to you to make your own mind up!

Horizon: Zero Dawn

The 2017 'Game of the Year' in many people's books, managing to edge out a new Zelda title is an incredible act. There's so much to see and do in Horizon: Zero Dawn, and it is done best on the PlayStation 4 Pro, with incredible attention to detail, amazing HDR lighting, and engaging open world game play.

You play as Aloy, in a world inhabited with machines. It is post-apocalyptic in the true sense, in that people have forgotten how technology functions, and have an very real, active fear of the machines that are trying to kill them.

This game is a platform seller, and remains one of the most compelling reasons to own a 4K HDR TV in concert with a PlayStation 4.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

As I stated in a previous review, Excellence begins to describe the vast majority of Uncharted 4, with the plot, action sequences, and gameplay being the muse that hollywood should lust upon when seeking inspiration for gripping action adventure genre defining works of art.

Uncharted 4 is like taking part in an Indiana Jones film, and it is a truly excellent experience that not only as a player, but a spectator (as my partner will attest), you'll go on an incredible journey to elaborate settings where you get to shoot things, solve puzzles, and marvel at all that surrounds you.

Another console seller, Uncharted 4; too looks amazing enhanced by the PS4 Pro's extra grunt.

The Last of Us: Remastered

This title has now had a long time to gestate since its initial release on the PlayStation 3 all the way back in 2013. Showing off is what developer Naughty Dog does best, and they do it constantly in The Last of Us.

The title, a third person action-adventure don't piss off the zombies too much survival horror romp tells a fantastic story of a smuggler and a girl, trying to get through the quarantine zone, where the 'zombies' (they're not really zombies) are at their most dangerous and numerous.

The game makes unique use of sound (and encourages silence, stealth, and not enaging in combat) and manages to weave a tense story of survival, endurance and the fragile balance of human society.

Until Dawn

Until Dawn is essentially the Saw film series wrapped up into a tidy little package in game form. It is visceral, violent; and explores the consequence of choice in a really incredible way.

It is the reason I purchased a PS4 at all, and I had ordered this game before I even went to go buy the console. It was worth every cent.

You explore a real time (One real life hour = one in game hour) train-wreck of a get-together in the cabins, with a cast of youth looking to kick back and have a nice little part-ay. Like every cabin in the woods story - it doesn't go as well as planned.

There's tons of re-playability, and its a thoughtful, good looking game.

PlayStation VR

You could call it the "Poor Man's VR", but it has moved, as reported by The Verge on December 7, 2017, that it had sold two million units world wide. Eight Months for the first one million units, and the next million gone in six months.

With a recent price drop, and the road to E3 paved with silence on Sony's lips; its easy to speculate that there will be something big coming for the PlayStation VR.

With the price drop handily coinciding with the cinematic release of Ready Player One, appetites for virtual reality experiences are likely to grow enormously. Currently, the HTC VIVE and Oculus have shipped under one million units, with the PlayStation VR outstripping sales of those units combined.

The 'new titles'

So you've had your reasons listed why you should buy a PS4 now. There's still a few more reasons why you should buy a PS4 for the future: God of War is probably the most obvious of these, and it arrives very soon.

Later, in May, we can get cosy with androids in Detroit Become Human then, in what many are looking forward to the most, there's The Last of Us: Part II which will no doubt have Naughty Dog push the PS4 to its absolute limits.

Finally, there's the prospective of what may come with the PlayStation VR, especially in regards to the price drop. There's stern competition, of course, from Microsoft, but nothing on the VR front. There are rumours of an Oculus partnership in the works, however.

So what's next?

Next, we'll bring you a list of reasons why you shouldn't buy a PS4.
